Swim
Comments: Felt relaxed and enjoyed the majority of the swim- did have some points where I would look at the buoys and seemed ridiculously far What would you do differently?: nothing- happy with my swim! Transition 1
Comments: had wetsuit strippers! so helpful, ate half an orange; put on bike shoes, then realized I forgot to change into bike shorts, but they actually went on just fine over the shoes Bike
Comments: drank 1 bottle homemade cherry beverage & 1 1/2 bottles of water, ate 2 choc-peanut granola bars, 2 hammergel; felt really good for 1st 15 miles, then slowed down, started to rain around 20-25 miles and became windy, really struggled through that last half and was really reconsidering my decision to even enter this race. I became nauseated too I think because I had to use the bathroom. I just kept thinking I had no clue if I would be able to run afterwards! What would you do differently?: trained with more frequent longer rides, and trained with faster paces Transition 2
Comments: changed into running shorts, used bathroom- put 3 hammergel into tri top pockets, went back to get race belt and finish orange Run
Comments: started running and was amazed how ok my legs felt- guess the 5 minute transition time helped with that! ran for maybe 1/4 mile with aunt tude, that helped get me motivated! saw grandma right by the finish line (at the beginning), she looked like she was having a good time. Ran 2 times with a couple different people for a few miles each- helped SO much! I ran up the 2 big hills- I just love working those hills. Ate 3 hammergel (2 with caffeine), walked through all water stops, 1 potty break Tude found me at almost 1 mile left (on her bike) then she got a flat tire and ran ahead with her bike so she could watch me finish! I finished strong and felt great. I did choke up a little at about 1.5 miles from the end- just so happy to be almost done and accomplishing this amazing goal. I high fived Dad and aunt Tude on my way into the finish, and hugged grandma right at the end. THAT WAS AWESOME- so glad I had family there for me at the end. I teared up a little, but not too emotional. Just tired and happy to be done! What would you do differently?: nothing- happy with my run Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm guessing training on the bike Event comments: SO many volunteers & very well organized- I would do this race again! Delicious pulled pork sandwich & corn on the cob at the end YUM! Last updated: 2010-04-23 12:00 AM
