Swim
Comments: No ranks reported for the individual legs for some reason. Again, probably started too far back. Got out to the turn bouy okay, even tho it was a bit congested. Lots of breast strokers, or people stopping. Felt good the entire swim, especially toward then end when i had some more space. What would you do differently?: Start closer to the front of the pack. Probably could have taken some time off. Transition 1
Comments: My bike was on the first rack in transition, so it was easy to find. I thought the T1 was good for me, considering, as usual, still tying my bike shoes ;) went sockless on the bike. No real problems getting throught the transition area with my bike - it was a long way to go, but managed to get around everyone without a problem. What would you do differently?: I could get different shoes, but then i wouldn't have the excuse that i had to tie my shoes ;) Bike
Comments: Loved the course. The only issue was the traffic. Got jammed up a couple of times on some of the corners, but managed to get back up to speed quickly in most cases. The same girl, all decked out with aero bars, aero helmet, handle bar drink thingy passed me on 2 or 3 corners, and then slowed down as soon as she passed me ;/ had to get back around her every time. Had a good time going back and forth with some dude that look like Phil Jackson (LA Lakers coach). Not sure what ever happened to him. I thought this was a really good bike for me. I hope I can find some rank info. What would you do differently?: Not much really. Except maybe not take that one turn so wide that i made the guy in the Big Ass Mercedes swerve out of the way. That could've hurt. Transition 2
Comments: I guess there was some issue with the T2 gate. Most people didn't have a T2 recorded. I'm guessing the time is included with the Run? What would you do differently?: This was a good T2 for me. Wish i knew how long it took. Put my socks on for the run. Went pretty quick tho, i had the socks rolled. Took a quick drink from my water bottle. Run
Comments: This run did not feel anywhere near this fast (fast for me) I don't know if it's just that the course was so flat it was just a faster time. I thought i was doing maybe 9:30 miles at best. I did get past a few people on the run, maybe 3 or 4. I couldn't guess at how many people passed me, it felt like about 100. My stomach didn't feel all that great for a lot of the run. A little belchy. What would you do differently?: Run Faster? I've been putting extra time into training for the run (and not training for swimming at all) I think it's going to take a while. Hopefully it's going to start paying off. Post race
Warm down: Walked, to where they keep the water. little tiny bit of stretching. Found some friends, watched some friends finish. Watched the awards, one of my new friends took 3rd in the M45-49 (faster breast stroker around). Headed over to Rudy's house where he hosted a fantastic BBQ for a bunch of his tri-friends and families. Awesome time. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim - start positioning, probably could go harder. Running - Need to work on running faster, and also probably just better conditioning. Kind of tired by the time the run comes around. Event comments: Lots and Lots of volunteers at this race. Which was good, because i think there are more first timers than a lot of the races i've been doing. They had a lot of good sponsors providing food, etc. Very well sponsored race. Got most of my equipment packed up the day before - due to the early, early start time. Set my alarm for 4:45am, but got up at 4:15am. Had a little coffee, some toast w/PB packed the car, racked the bike and headed to the race. Somehow, this took 1 hour. Good thing I woke up early.
Unloaded, got to transition, setup, got my chip. Found a few friends before the race. jogged (in barefeet) for about 3 minutes. Got a quick swim in - out to first bouy and back. Back to the beach to wait for my wave.
