Pre-race routine:

Checked the radar upon waking up at 3:30 and it looked like we may stay dry. Tried a bit different routine to the morning and had a small amount of oatmeal at home along with the usual banana before getting on the road around 4:40. Got to U of T just after 5:30 and had a great parking spot, hit the arena for our packets and hit the toilet. When we got back to the car the vehicles were poring in. Sat in the car for about 10 or 15 minutes before getting ready to head towards the starting area.
Event warmup:

Just some short running and ITB stretching.

Comments:

Lots of runners with the full and half being mixed for the start, made the first couple of miles a leap frog event. Wasn't sure what to expect and knew my training was lacking some key workouts over the last few weeks, so my goal of 1:45 was just a dream, but I figured a PR was possible.
What would you do differently?:

Not get ill three weeks out and miss some of the tougher tempo/interval work that was on the schedule.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed my finisher's medal and mug along with a water and headed to the car to drop it off, then I ran the course in reverse to find Karen. Helped her in and hit the snacks. Winds were picking up and things were cool so we headed to the car to head home and try and warm up.

Event comments:

We really enjoyed the race and were quite glad the weather held out though anyone on the course over 4:30 would've got wet. Hopefully they have some nicer weather next year.

Real nice course with decent food and drinks afterwards. Would've stayed to enjoy things if the weather was a bit nicer.

Saw some perfect reasons why headphones should be banned or the race needs to have folks on cycles in front of the leaders clearing the route. Due to being on a paved path with out and back, leaders of the half were coming back while at least two folks with head phones were spacing out and not hearing us yell at them to get out of the way. The two leaders that were together had to take action to go around Mr and Mrs space cadets. Kinda of wish they would've took turns running them over.

Course: A beautiful course through University of Toledo campus, nice neighborhoods and along a nice flat path with a loop in an area Metropark. Just a couple of small hills with a few nice gentle down slopes in the last mile towards the finish.
