Pre-race routine:

Went to bed at 10:30 and slept pretty well. Got up around 5:30, had a blueberry muffin, yogurt, banana, and OJ around 6. Took my time getting ready. I already had my number so I just needed a chip and markings. Hung out in T area until it was time to close. Listened to pre-race meeting. Family arrived at 8 so I hung out with them until 8:15.
Event warmup:

Jogged around for a few minutes, then jumped in the water and did a few minutes there. Swam over for the in water start and away I went.
Swim
  • 14m 50s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

I like to stay outside to avoid getting kicked, but I went way outside. It was hard to see the buoy with the sun reflecting off the water. After passing the first buoy (of three), I stayed tight and did much better. I stood up as soon as my hand brushed the bottom.
What would you do differently?:

Sight a lot more and swim a bit further in to save legs for bike.
Transition 1
  • 03m 13s
Comments:

I was pretty slow here. My feet were a mess from the sand. Couldn't get my helmet on because my ponytail was in the way. I wore socks. Took Jeremy's advice and ran up the hill just past the T area and then got on my bike. Great advice! Saw some people struggling to get on and up the hill at the same time.
What would you do differently?:

Move it! Bring a water pan, remove ponytail with swim cap. Maybe practice getting into shoes on bike, though this kind of scares me.
Bike
  • 43m 39s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.04 mile/hr
Comments:

Did pretty well on my gear changes until I got to the big hill, then I changed too quickly and dropped my chain, twice. Luckily I was able to back pedal and change gears and got it back on. Slowed me down though on that monster hill. Had a GU with about 2 miles left. Two scoops of Infinite in my bottle which I nearly finished.
What would you do differently?:

Easy on the gear changes girl! I think I could have gone a little bit harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

I'm pretty satisfied with this time.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 31m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a hard time catching my breath and my pace ended up being slower.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure? Maybe not run so hard with my bike in transition?
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around with hubby, swam with daughter. This really helped my post race day soreness I think.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Unfamiliarity with the course, over-training.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race. The course was beautiful and it was well-run. I think the shirts were the best yet. I would have liked some protein post-race. It was just cookies and fruit.
