Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:00 and started drinking a lot of water. Had a banana muffin, yogurt, and a peach arount 4:15. Got to transition about 5:00 and got set-up pretty quickly. Spent some time making sure I knew how to get back to my bike. Had a mini Clif bar at 5:30 and a GU at 6:10.
Event warmup:

Walked down to the swim start which was almost a mile from transition. About 20 minutes before my wave I downed a GU, got on my wetsuit and checked my bag. I squeezed into my wave group that was waiting in the chute and stretched, swung my arms, and bounced up and down.
Swim
  • 19m 49s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a much faster swim than I thought I would, even with the run to transition tacked onto the end. I felt good and fast and it was great to have Scott walking along side me.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I was happy with this.
Transition 1
  • 03m 36s
Comments:

The transition area was HUGE so my time is slower than normal, but I also didn't push too hard. The race was big and a little overwhelming so I gave myself a bit of slack in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Next time I do this I'll hustle more. I should probably practice transitions a bit too. Bringing some water to rinse my feet instead of using a towel might save some time.
Bike
  • 46m 48s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 17.53 mile/hr
Comments:

I passed a lot of people and got passed a lot too. Had to watch for slow riders, water bottles, potholes, and expansion joints. I felt pretty fast and was happy with my time. Drank all of my Infinit and had a GU about 10 minutes before I finished.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Again I was happy with this.
Transition 2
  • 02m 29s
Comments:

Again a bit slow, but this area was HUGE.
What would you do differently?:

Practice some transitions. I don't think I can run without socks though.
Run
  • 30m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

This is about average for me, but considering the swim and bike were longer, I guess that's good. I'd like to improve my run time over the winter. I felt pretty good though, if a little full from water.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, had some bagel, banana, and water. They had an awesome cold, wet towel for the finishers and some misting fans. Went back to the hotel and showered. Finally remembered to stretch in the shower. Walked around some more that day and had a little nap.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I definitely need to do some more interval and strength training. I am improving so I hope to continue doing so with my training.

Event comments:

This was a fabulous race and I had a ton of fun. I'd really like to do this again in future years. Amazing vibe with all of the people (8500 signed up!).
