Swim
Comments: There were 6 heats of about 30-40 competitors and inside each at 10s intervals. I was about the middle of my heat, and it turned out to be a fairly well placed position, after 2 eager beavers zoomed past me and then got log jammed in the next lane, I had open water in front and behind me for the rest of the swim. Probably the most comfortable swim I've had ever. What would you do differently?: Felt pretty good, just work on stroke efficiency. Transition 1
Comments: No transition times, so the actual swim and bike times are extended somewhat. Because of the weather, I added a layer just for comfort. I could feel my calves cramping as soon as we left the pool and hit the cold outside. This transition was pretty slow, and unusual based on the weather/time of yr. What would you do differently?: Do races in warmer weather! or Suck it up! ;) Bike
Comments: Didn't hammer - just tried to keep even cadence. Got passed by a few folks, but didn't let it affect me. One guy passed me and thought he'd remind me of the shapely rear end of the lady a few hundred ahead of us, just to keep me going I'm guessing...usually I get a "keep going, you're doing great!" lol What would you do differently?: Up the tempo, based upon this stage in the season and my current conditioning, I was ok with this leg. Transition 2
Comments: Another combined transition - my bike time on my computer was closer to 1:16, so I had a pretty decent turnaround I guess. Just had to move the 3 extra bikes that had deposited themselves on my part of the rack that weren't there before. Headwind on the incline each lap - thank my aero's for their work! What would you do differently?: Give'r Run
Comments: Tough to get started...maybe 4k's in before I really settled down to a comfortable rhythm. The field was pretty spread out by now, so didn't have anyone to draft off... Knee started acting up about 7k in, which concerned me, as it has been fine in long runs recently. Finished comfortably without killing myself. What would you do differently?: Get some more brick training in. Post race
Warm down: Walked off the run, stretched a little, got some fluids and nutrition. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cold. Level of conditioning at this stage of the season. Event comments: Started about 20mins late, and with the heats running the way they do, and not DQing swimmers that don't make the 40min cutoff, there were inevitable delays. Otherwise well laid out, lots of vollies giving directions and cheering you along. Security in transition was excellent, for which I was very impressed and grateful. Other than it snowing in the days before, which enforced me to taper, the weather wasn't too unpleasant, the road was dry in most places for the bike and run, just the wind had a bit of a bite, but I've been conditioning myself for that riding into work each day, so it wasn't too much of a shock to the system. Definitely happy with the race and how I felt afterwards, good start to the season. Last updated: 2006-01-04 12:00 AM

Woke about 5am, had some oatmeal/protein powder. Double checked equipment. Rode to the race site.
The ride was 6k, fairly brisk morning...did some stairs and stretching before my heat began at the pool.
