Swim
Comments: Did a few OWS practices leading up to the race, but still had a rough time. Bumping completely threw me out of whack & just could not get any rhythem going. Got water in my goggles a few times which did not help matters. Had much higher expectations for this leg. What would you do differently?: Continue the pool time and working on technique and breathing. I think I should have been more agressive at the start instead of sitting back. I know it will come & I have to just be patient. Transition 1
Comments: Not sure what happened here. This was one of the slowest T1 times of the day. Had some problems getting into my shoes, but did not think I was this slow. Hopped onto the bike & got going well. What would you do differently?: Practice more on a routine. Get tri shoes instead of my regular road shoes. Bike
Comments: Had a lot of time to make up from the swim/T1. Got going quick and immediately started passing people. This was a fast course with little wind. I did not hold much back, but still felt very comfortable the entire ride. My dismount went very smooth and I was really pleased with my time. What would you do differently?: Not much. This was my fastest average of the year. I think I could have been more aggressive at a few points. Very happy and surprised. Transition 2
Comments: Still too slow. Got off the bike and to the rack quickly, but too much time getting into shoes and back out. What would you do differently?: A little more practice & I think I will be fine. Run
Comments: Legs felt pretty good coming out of T2. I was worried since I had not really done any brick training. Got going and grabbed water at each station. Took a small sip & the rest went on my head. Never had any issues with heat or humidity. One small cramp early on but it went away. Looked at my Garmin periodically and saw my pace was better than anticipated. Started looking for others in my age group and tried to pass at every opportunity. My heart rate was very high, but it did not seem to bother me. Finished with a hard kick passing a couple of more in my group. What would you do differently?: Start putting in more miles. My achilles tendon gets really sore after workouts, so I have not been pushing my run workouts too much. Post race
Warm down: Had a couple of breakfast tacos and a beer. Talked with some people I met. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of good swim technique. Lack of transition practice/experience. Event comments: This is a very organized and well run race. Very pleased. I'll be doing it again next year. Last updated: 2010-04-28 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:00 had a bowl of 7 grain hot cereal. This was my first triathlon so I had trouble sleeping. Everything was pretty much packed and ready to go, so I just hopped in the car and headed out. Arrived and pumped my tires, checked in and set up my transition area.
Nothing much. Did some stretching and walking around while waiting.
