Pre-race routine:

Wasn't sure if I was going to race right up till race morning. I've had a cold for over a week and it was miserable outside (pouring rain right up to about 10 minutes before the race started. Decided I might as well get out there and have no expectations.

Felt really good on the swim. I maybe worked a little too hard. I was think I would get out of the water in 17:30 and was actually out closer to 17:00 (plus run into transition). I was hoping to practice drafting off of some fast feet but the wave was really small and couldn't find any fast feet to go with (start line was maybe 50 m wide, and only 5 people in my wave finished faster than me). Caught up with people two waves ahead (started 5 or 6 minutes before) and finished with the pack from the wave ahead (all men :))
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go a little easier

learn to ride sockless and have my shoes already clipped in but this scares me.

This is WAY slower than it should have been. I'm in shape to have gone at least 28 km/hour and finish the bike more than 5 minutes faster. I think it was a combination of cold, benedryl from bug bites, the headwind, and not being able to ride my bike for the last two weeks (away for work)
What would you do differently?:

not get run down and get sick. Not go away for work for two weeks before a race. Not get 10,000 blackfly bites right before a race.

pretty good T2 for me. had a bit of trouble racking my bike, but I'm not at the point were seconds in T2 are really going to make any difference

my legs felt dead. I blame this on the cold. I just didn't have the run in me. I've been training to run much faster than this so it was kind of disappointing. I want to run my half IM in three weeks at this pace... Hopefully I can get this bug out of my system before then. I thought I could do sub 6 min/km pretty easily (like 5:45?). Oh well.
What would you do differently?:

Not have a cold? not be away for work? not be on benedryl?

didn't stick around for post race activities. I was cold and wanted to get home for a warm shower.
