Swim
Comments: My only gripe is that there should have been more bouys between the start of the swim and the first bouy. It must have been near a third of a mile to the first one. What would you do differently?: Practice more in open water. All in all I did well considering this was the first time I swam in open water. Transition 1
Comments: My transition was slower than I would have liked, but I also wasn't in a huge hurry. My entire goal was to finish this race as it was my first Oly. My next one will be a much faster transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I was being very conservative on this leg of the race. I wasn't pushing hard at any point and I was taking the hills at a slower than normal pace. As with my previous transition, my main goal was finishing, so I wasn't as concerned with speed as I was with enjoying the race. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Drank the remaining fluid I had in my transition bottle, grabbed some gels and water. I left my cycling gloves on my hands because I didn't see a point in removing them. Run
Comments: Running is still my weakest skill. I need to work on increasing my speed more than anything else. The run went well aside from one leg cramp at around the 4 mile mark. After a few minutes of stretching and walking I was able to finish fairly strong. What would you do differently?: Go over the running portion of the course a time or two prior to the race. Post race
Warm down: Lots and lots of fluids and walking. Event comments: All in all I had a great time at my first Oly. I'm looking forward to more as I now have a baseline I can use to fine-tune my training and to compare future races. Last updated: 2006-01-05 12:00 AM

I woke up at 4:45 that morning and had a peanut butter and banana sandwich, a large glass of water, and a second banana. I performed the final check of my gear and brought my tires up to pressure.
Upon arriving to the site, and after the 1.5 mile ride to the transition area (oy), I set up my transition area, got body marked, picked up my chip, and went down to check out the lake conditions.
Nothing beyond some general walking around and brief stretching.
