Swim
Comments: I had a huge bout of vertigo overtake me shortly after rounding the bouy. I tried to flip on to my back to catch my breath and that made is much worse. The best thing I found was to keep swimming and sighting the transition area on a regular basis. I am sure this helped with my nav, too. What would you do differently?: I would have hung back a little more. It was also my first open water swim, including first time in a wetsuit. In retrospect I would have done at least one or two practice swims. I would have also trained more than I did. Two months before the race I was only able to get in 2-3 swim sessions... not good! Transition 1
Comments: I really surprised myself during my first transition. I just kept saying "put your helmet on first!" I struggled getting my shoes to clip on after I mounted. What would you do differently?: Relax more. I didn't know what to expect because it was my first tri. Now I know that it will go quickly and smoothly if I can just relax. Bike
Comments: I was not prepared for this ride. Besides not enough training, I would say that I needed to do more cardio period. At one point I thought I was going to have to get off my bike and walk it up the hill, but I didn't, thank goodness. What would you do differently?: I would train more frequently on challenging courses. I would also have had more to eat race morning and more to drink so I wasn't so light headed. I was too nervous to eat and drink much and I paid for that mistake. Transition 2
Comments: I fumbled a bit with getting my runners on because by this time I was very light headed and feeling pretty woozy. What would you do differently?: Again, I would eat a good sized breakfast early race day morning. I will also try the quick laces next time. Run
Comments: I was fairly pleased with my run. An older gentleman kept me company for a good protion of the run and so many encouraged me along the way. It felt good for me. I am not a runner, so I was happy with this effort, not having put much training in the 2 months prior to the race. What would you do differently?: I would run more frequently in my training. Also, I would try not to slow down so much when I walk. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: I will definitely consider this race for next year. Last updated: 2010-05-02 12:00 AM

Watched the Olympic starts and first transition. Stretched prior to getting my wetsuit on, then swam for 8-10 minutes prior to start.
