Swim
Comments: A lot different that what I expected. I started off with freestyle stroke - went about 50 meters looked up to see where I was and I was totally off corse. This made the rest of the swim go down hill. I was paranoid of getting off corse so I kept looking up to gage where I was - this through off my rythm and also caused me to swallow some lake water. So I kept going to breast stroke so that I could gage where I was at all times. What would you do differently?: Do the warm up in the water. Practice OWS and read and train more about gaging where you are in OWS. I think next time I will be a little more prepared and the shock wlll not affect me as much. I can freestyle 500m no problem - hopefully next time I can do this and not revert to the breast stroke as much. Transition 1
Comments: I thought my time was faster. Did not know how much time I was going to spend in T1 but I was shooting for 1:30. What would you do differently?: I didn't really want to go all pro on my first race and have my shoes pre clipped in and then try to get them in on the corse. Think next time I'll try to shave this time down as guys who I had beaten by over a minute in the swim portion passed me in the transition. Bike
Comments: Before I started my training I had never really riden a road bike before. I borrowed my buddies bike for this event and only really trained on the bike about 6 - 8 times before the race. What would you do differently?: Thought this was going to be the weakest part of my race - I do not feal comfortable on the bike...probably slow down way to much on turns but enjoyed this portion of the race - I liked picking out people I knew I could catch in front of me and slowly catching up to them. Transition 2
Comments: I was hoping to get this in the 1: 30 second range. I almost accomplished this - felt pretty good. Thank you to the guy that poited out that I forgot to put my number on. What would you do differently?: I might try to do the slip out of the shoe while riding to the transition to see what that might shave off my time. Run
Comments: My 5K pace is usually around 8 so I was 30 seconds per mile over this. I knew my time would be more than usuall pace so I am happy with the pace - I would like to work on trying to get the two pace times closer. I like picking out guys that I knew I could catch and trying to work on catching them. Picked out one guy at the start of the run and told my self to try to catch him...did with only 1/2 mile left - that felt really good. What would you do differently?: Never practice on bike and run back to back. The first mile my legs were a little wobbly but after the first mile they felt good - need to add a bike/run block to my training. Post race
Event comments: I really enjoyed the mental aspect of this race - think that is what will make me do another one. If you couldn't tell - I really like that I could pick out a competitor and then work my way to eventually pass them - need to work on getting passed also. More training. OWS preperation and buy my own bike and get comfortable on it. Last updated: 2010-05-03 12:00 AM

This is my first ever triathlon. Did not know really what to expect, what to do before he race began, etc. I woke up at 4:30 ate an energy bar and drank some water....headed out to the event.
Did some stretching and people watching to see what exactly most people do before the race began. Saw a lot of people wearing wetsuits so I didn't want to get into the water for a warmup - but I figured out when the race started the water temp was actually perfect.
