Swim
Comments: Didn't swim as well as I might have liked, but overall not far off my goal. First time navigating buoys - had to prarie-dog a lot. Definitely feel like that cost me a bit of time. What would you do differently?: Practice more open-water swimming and in wetsuit. Practice more swimming in general. Practice navigation - need to look at buoys & course correct without pausing. Transition 1
Comments: Very happy with T1 - didn't overcomplicate things - was faster than I expected - didn't try to drink in T1 - had bottle on bike to drink on road What would you do differently?: Figure out a better way to dry feet and wipe off fine gravel prior to putting on socks/shoes (not a huge problem, but definitely noticed gravel... could have been a real pain down the road) [Can organizers use a street sweeper in parking lot prior to event?] Bike
Comments: Definitely picked up a few places from guys who had posted better swims than I. Felt good on the bike... pushed about the right amount I think. Relative to AG, this was my best leg (aside from T2). What would you do differently?: Felt like I lost momentum braking for corners as I was hesitant. Need to train and learn to corner better / more confidently. Transition 2
Comments: Very happy with this, first competitive transition. What would you do differently?: Practice dismount, jump off moving bike... felt awkward Run
Comments: Decent pace... felt like I tapered a little in return half Feel like I picked up a couple of people who were ahead of me. Passed one guy in my age group at about 1 mile, only to be passed again by him at about 3.5 miles - couldn't muscle enough to keep or catch him. Hat off to the winning strategy on the day. What would you do differently?: Drinking from paper cups on the move not something I do well. Gatorade is sticky, so need to drink water or carry small bottle of gatorade. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, moderate stretching. Had FLUID, MuscleMilk, Tech Burrito from sponsors. Seemed to help. Enjoyed post-race food band and presentation - thanks to sponsors. Stuck around longer than I intended. What limited your ability to perform faster: Illness in month preceeding race hampered ability to train. However, very happy with result Overall, beat my time goal of 2:05 - Reached my base goal of finishing. - Reached my stretch goal of being in top 2/3 of age group - Almost reached my super stretch goal of being in top 1/2 of age group Event comments: First Triathlon - was just right difficulty for me. Well organized, well staffed. Easy to navigate. Lots of good sponsors. Post-race activities were fun and well attended. Starts were about 5 mins late, which I consider to be 'on-time' One of my club colleagues had a mix-up with her timing chip, so had 2 numbers. She was understandably perturbed about that, but seemed to all work out in the end. Fun race. Not much to compare it to, so give it a '5'. Will do again. Last updated: 2010-05-03 12:00 AM

Met some folks from my tri club - nice to chat with a few people since I haven't been to any club events yet.
Not a big warmup.
Stretched a little.
Got in water about 10 mins ahead of start. Swam a bit to get used to water and to see how other waves started.
