Swim
Comments: Actually swam pretty well. Passed one person in the pool. Didn't get passed once, which I was expecting because I thought my estimated 400 time was a little too fast. Transition 1
Comments: This was the first time I mounted the bike in a race with the shoes already attached. It was a little rough in one spot, but nothing too big. I think I'll practice it a little more before the next race. Bike
Comments: Alan and I exited T1 at the same time. We then swapped places 6 or 7 times throughout the ride. Ended up beating him on the ride by 10 seconds. I was riding to try and win the award for the fastest bike split. Missed it by 30 seconds. Forgot to put my bike computer on before the race started. Thought breifly about putting it on during the ride but didn't think it'd be worth it. Not sure if not having the computer handy helped, hurt or had no effect. Transition 2
Comments: Helmet came off fine, didn't even realized I did it. The shoes are a whole nother matter. Tried to put on socks at first, because I never run without socks. The socks didn't want to go on damp feet so after a few seconds I decided to go without them. Then the shoes didn't want to slide onto damp feet either. What would you do differently?: Might try putting some powder in my running shoe so they slide on more easily. Run
Comments: Took the legs a little bit to switch from biking to running. Had a great finish. The guy infront of me was also in my age group. He started the swim 30 seconds ahead of me. After the turn around I kept looking at the distance between me and him and thinking "Is that 30 seconds or less?" In the last 0.5 - 1 miles I started closing the gap. In the last 300 yards I caught and passed him. I could see his shadow on the ground and moved over a little so he'd have to go to my other side if he wanted to pass. Just after the turn into the Y he surged and went around me. At that point I was just trying to hold on. After a second or two of wondering if I could keep it up I noticed that he slowed down slightly. Right then I through in my final surge and got past him again. At this point we got to the last turn into the parking lot behind the Y where the finish line was. About half way through the turn I started kicking with everything I had left and pushed as hard as I could through to the finish line. So I suppose that the two of us gave the people watching the race a good finish to watch. What would you do differently?: Do more bricks. Post race
Event comments: It was a very well organized race. I didn't notice any problems or hitches at all. Distances are a little off. So the paces aren't exactly accurate, but they're close. Last updated: 2010-05-03 12:00 AM
