Comments:

Tough time sighting buoys from start to first white turn buoy, drifted to left, stopped twice to adjust goggles (leaking) noticed I was getting close to a kayak stopped and everyone was way over on my right. Started sighting more often on backside, much better, also goggles stopped leaking.
What would you do differently?:

Sight more often
Transition 1
  • 03m 8s
Comments:

Wet suit strippers were great, as I stood up left quad seized, I walked most of way to bike eased up as I left with bike.
What would you do differently?:

Dunno, Not sure why the cramp happened
Bike

  • 17.28 mile/hr
Comments:

All was going well until the first downhill changing to 59 gear, chain shifted poorly then off, was able to get it back on 39 ring. Decided not to test it again. I ended up staying in 39 gear coasting on some downhills where I normally would have been able to gear up and ride faster. Other problem was nutrition, gut started cramping after an hour which has never happened in training rides, Infinit tasted sweeter than usual, i may have put too many scoops in bottle. Stayed with water only until stomach felt better about third hour.
What would you do differently?:

Gears were ok on previous day on fairly level road. Concentrate on scoop count !!
Post race
Warm down:

T2. To get your time, you racked bike and ran on run course then left through finishers chute.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gearing and body composition !!

Event comments:

Enjoyed venue, well organized yet felt like a relaxed environment. something for everyone: aquabike, half, full distance and relays. Pre-race packet race number tattoos were great; sped up entry in transition. Plenty of post race food, nice tech finishers shirt and medal. Would return again. Stayed to watch a friend finish her first IM. The last athlete crossed finish after 3am; very nice of them to allow the participant to finish. Award ceremonies at Marriott was inspiring.
