Pre-race routine:

Decided Sat after ride to not miss this one. Seems like forever since last race in April. Hammy doing better. Up 4a, a 45' drive. Drank boost an ate a banana with a 16 oz coffee on drive up. Sipped gatorade and Gu 30' prior to swim
Event warmup:

some light stretching..
  • 15m 34s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 51s / 100 yards

lake water was well pretty nasty but not unexpected
What would you do differently?:

nothing, felt I was swimming faster than time, no excuses.
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s

Steady, did not rush, putting socks on took longer than usual.
What would you do differently?:

Did not practice any transitions since April, it showed.
  • 42m 43s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.66 mile/hr

Drank water from aerobottle. Not sure how legs were going to hold up after ride yesterday but overall pleased with ride. Goal was to keep high cadence and about HR 145 avg. Played leap frog with two other riders.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 2
  • 01m 38s

Long way to rack, last row in grass off parking lot, did not want to risk a fall running with bike on asphalt.
What would you do differently?:

  • 33m 35s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile

Beautiful course. Hammy held up much better than i anticipated.
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Ice cold towels at finish, ahh!! Walked back to swim for flips, had pizza, watermelon and an Ultra, chatted with some folks, everyone agreed the race venue was awesome.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much running last month, right hamstring therapy and rest helped but not quite back to 100%

Event comments:

Heard this race was great and not disappointed. Lots of volunteers, well organized venue. Will be back next year.

Course: Flat course, last couple miles the road was rough, couldn't tell it looking at road, but you felt like a tire was low or experiencing a flat. Looked down several times but seemed ok, later found it it was just a rough section.

Course: a very nice flat course with combination of road and trail through woods. My dog chewed up Garmin wrist strap sometime Saturday so just ran keeping tabs on the hammy discomfort. Stopped twice at aid stations for gatorade.
