Swim
Comments: Was my first ever beach start which was a lot of fun and first swim I would consider challenging. Waves weren't huge but there were enough to give me a mouthful of water a couple times. I drafted off one of Brad (fellow dot) for the first half of the swim and then made the pass, came out of the water first and lead the race for a whole couple minutes :) What would you do differently?: Nothing, need to signup for more of these kind of swim courses it was fun! Transition 1
Comments: This is where my leading ended, couldn't get the damn helmet strap buckled! Would have been nice to have at least been passed up by Dean/Brad at the mount line instead of me standing there trying to buckle a helmet. Bike
Comments: Powertap had the course at 18.3mi with my avg @24.6mph think the official results had me @25mph which isn't quite right. I paced very well and achieved my goal of holding off Stephen (smilford) until the run. Throttled back the last half to try and make it possible for me to run. 1st half @298W, 2nd half @282W for a 290W average. What would you do differently?: Push harder, I have a tendency to race conservatively but I guess that goes with 70.3 training. I had plenty of gas left in the tank need to use it. Transition 2
Comments: Well at least I know how to unbuckle a helmet :) What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Can you say hot? I was dying and trying to keep myself cool within the first mile. I heard footsteps just before the 1st mile and I didn't even need to turn my head and said good luck to smilford as he trotted on by (damn runners!). About another mile down the road I didn't even hear footsteps as a guy (who won my AG) blazed past me. I tried to hang on his heals when I saw the 31 on his leg but knew that wasn't going to happen after a few steps and returned to my waddle. Run was on par with what I've done recently but I want more. I've been focusing on my run training above all else but maybe I'll revisit the training plan one more time... Again think results are off but not sure by how much since I didn't start my Garmin until ~0.5mi in but I was averaging ~6:47 (not 6:34) from the data I have. What would you do differently?: For current run ability and heat conditions, nothing. Post race
Warm down: Chatted with fellow triathletes, awards, then wakeboarding and beer :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Damn running Event comments: Was a smaller sprint race for the area but it was full of top athletes from the area. Very good course for those who want a slight challenge in the swim. Bike course was pretty flat, couple of bridges to go up and over but nothing difficult. Not sure anyone in their right minds wants a hot run but you'll get that too :) Last updated: 2010-05-05 12:00 AM
