Pre-race routine:

Nothing really. This was a super sprint at my gym.
Event warmup:

I rode my bike the 1.3 miles to the gym.
Swim
  • 08m 32s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nothing out of the ordinary here. I swam around my usual pace. I did try to work a little bit on my stroke during this swim just because I didn't think I'd be competing for a win. It really didn't slow me down any though.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more, faster, longer, straighter, and more sexily.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition times weren't counted. You had about 10 minutes or so to get up to the bikes. That way you could dry off a bit and not track water through the gym.
Bike
  • 18m 23s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 20.24 mile/hr
Comments:

6.2 miles on a stationary bike. Just on the "quick start" setting, ride at your own difficulty level. This was a decent workout for me and I felt pretty good during it. Having SportsCenter to watch during a race is fun.
What would you do differently?:

I could have gone harder for sure. But I don't know how well my legs would have held up for the run after racing the night before as well.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No transition time here either.
Run
  • 13m 46s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

1.5 on the treadmil, "quick start" option, no elevation. This is hands down the fastest I've ever ran. Well, one time in college I ran a 7:59 mile, but just one time, and one mile.

Anyhow, I had assumed that I was comfortably in the lead (by ~ a minute over the faster swimmer guy) but I was totally unaware that a slow swimmer had taken the lead off the bike by a handful of seconds. When I got to the last .15 or so, I set the treadmil to around 10.5 - 11 mph and sprinted the last bit. That was the only reason I won, and I didn't have any clue that I needed to do that to win.
Post race
Warm down:

Held on to the treadmil and caught by breath.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being fat and not in good shape.

Event comments:

This was a really fun little race. It was the first time that they'd ever done it at my gym, and they plan to do a couple every year now. The slower swimmer guy wanted a shorter swim, but I think a longer one would be even better. ;)
