Pre-race routine:

Got up, couldn't decide what to eat, so headed on downtown. Stopped at McD's on the way downtown and got an Egg McMuffin - though, yeah, I'll only have a couple bites and it'll be OK - yeah, I'll stick with a couple of bites... Also got a small Barqs root beer. I donno that that was a good thing. Got downtown, parked on campus, and closed my eyes for about an hour.
Event warmup:

Walked about 1/2 mile to get to start, found a place that somewhat sheltered a tiny bit of the 40* wind. Had a Gu 30 minutes prior to start.

Comments:

This was a breakthrough run for me. I took the lessons learned at the Costa and applied them to this race. I blew up the Costa after 10k. I took this out a little slower, and held pace for 10M. Last 5k was a little slower, but not much.

first 5M 52:09
second 5M 52:43

I got a side stitch within the first 30 seconds. Everytime I would drink, my stomach would get upset. Donno what those were about. I pushed through the stitch. I tried to limit my drinking, think this was OK until the last 5k - where it probably hurt me. Since I couldn't drink, I didn't take any Gu - probably hurt my last 5k as well.

So, I caught up to my little sis somewhere before we hit the town of Speedway, so we got a chance to run together for several miles - at least past the 10k mark, probably closer to mile 7, when I dropped her somewhere along the way.
What would you do differently?:

I needed to take a pee break less than 1 mile into the race - never had that happen before - I think it was the Barqs. Got a side stitch un the first 30 seconds - again, I think it was the Barqs.

I was in decent shape in the afternoon, as far as my legs. Usually, by the end of a 13.1, my legs are trashed, unable to walk for a couple of days. My legs were remarkably good - maybe I just didn't push to my limit? Just the thought of that is crazy, as this was a PR by a hugh margin.
Post race
Warm down:

Got done, grabbed food, grabbed clothes out of the trucks, found a road sign and did leg drains for a good 10 minutes. I think this, and the stretching that followed helped IMMENSELY - I felt remarkably good for having just PR'ed the race. I was still tired, but usually, I can't walk for a day after a 13.1.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrition/Hydration/Poor breakfast choice. I needed more liquids earlier in the race, and needed at least 1 GU somewhere along the way - probably just before the track, just under 1 hour.

30 MPH winds in my face on the way out to Speedway.

Event comments:

Except for the 2010 weather, this was a fantastic race, and good for a 13.1 PR for me.
