Swim
Comments: This was a good for swim for me even with the altitude factored in. I'm such a slow swimmer and came in a minute slower than my ideal time and 4 minutes faster than what I thought was realistic. Everytime I do this is gets a little better. I really did feel the altitude right off the bat which I didn't think would happen seeing I had been up there and active for several days. What would you do differently?: Take a few practice swims at altitude and I really need to start working on sighting now that I seem to have the freaking out in open water thing under control. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I mentally freaked myself out for no reason on this leg. The climb while hard was fun, just got in granny gear and spun my way up it. What was not fun was losing my chain twice at the top trying to get into my big ring. Will talk to shop who did my maintainence the week before or better yet learn to do it myself. Onthe way back down from the top to the lake I was on my brakes way, way, way too much. People I passed on the climb were flying by me on the way down. Oh well. Don't know my time or that of run cause my timing chip only picked up one time for both. Know I wasn't fast but I finished which was my goal for this entire event. What would you do differently?: Make sure that everything on bike, including gearing is in good order and also more downhill rides to build my skills and confidence. Transition 2
Run
Comments: This is usually my strongest leg but man I was whipped when I got to this portion. Not much shade on the entire run, which did not help. Walked the hill on the backside which is unusual for me. I did a Gu right when I started and don't know if that was a good idea, was not going down, just kinda stuck in throat. What would you do differently?: Maybe somemore runs off the bike. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and my wonderful guy took my shoes off and I jumped in lake. Did not want to wait in food line so grabbed a beer, hung and and talked with friends and my guy for a little while then we went to Sunnyside for lunch and beers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Altitude, bike condition, fear of going downhill on bike and heat. Event comments: Fun event, beautiful location. My first olympic distance and will try again next year for sure, maybe even beat this year's time. Last updated: 2010-05-06 12:00 AM

Walk around nervously like usual. Chat with the people setting up around me.
Got in water a few waves early and paddled around.
