Age Group Rank = 3/14
Pre-race routine:

Up @ 3:30, coffee and granola, over an hour to the race w/ 1 truckstop pitstop, worked packet pickup, set up TZ (so weird, only shoes and helmet and bike), jogged with Jana, another pitstop, lots of chatting w/ fellow AGers.
Event warmup:

1/2 mile jog w/ Jana.
Run
  • 18m 31s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to keep up with the lead group. They cut a corner short and got more lead on me.
What would you do differently?:

More running.
Transition 1
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

I won T1!!!
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn moving mount. Got to mount line w/ the leaders and got going quickly.
Bike
  • 46m 9s
  • 15.55 miles
  • 20.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Quads tired from the get go. I assume it's from pickaxing and hauling dirt all week and adding strength workouts to my training. Also, by mile 9 my calves were cramping badly -- avoided it by mashing a bigger gear. Went away in the 1st mile of the run.

Interesting: I ranked better on the run than the bike in my AG, but worse overall.
What would you do differently?:

Pickle juice for cramps? Train harder?
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

I won T2!!
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn moving dismount.
Run
  • 19m 25s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Discovered I have a psychological block against passing people -- thought about Jana way ahead instead and passed people no prob.
What would you do differently?:

More running. Push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked the bike back to the car and it started pouring as soon as I got there, so sat in the car a bit and had a Clif bar and coffee. When the rain eased I put on some clothes and hung out with Jana and Ted. Did some walking -- GI was very upset.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more interval/speed training. Hadn't run much lately because I think I have a broken/cracked/chipped bone in my foot from tripping on a rock 2 weeks ago. Also felt like hurling for much of the race -- 3 bathroom stops before and 1 after the race means my body didn't like something I ate/drank.

Event comments:

Love Racing Underground. Got a cool pint glass for 3rd place. Winner of our AG won pedals also. Lots of giveways, too. Low key fun group of people that do their races, yet still fairly competitive.

Finished 10th of 90 women :)
