Run
Comments: About a minute before the start, one of the fasties asked me what my time goal was. I answered 43 minutes. He did a 180 degrees turn, uninterested. I guess I look faster than I am. :P Off course it was raining. The weather is always crappy when I race. There was some wind too. Splits 1k 3:51 Too fast out of the blocks... classic, I don't know why I always do that... or if that has a negative effect late in the race for that matter. 2k 4:10 Surprise! a hill at ~1.5k. Not too bad a climb but it was in wet grass so it was slippery. Knowing the course would have been helpful for effort management... 3k 4:25 <- WTF was that?!? It wasn't because of the hill as I wasn't breathing that hard, everything felt sluggish and when I saw that time I said to myself that the 42min goal was already gone. I was really close to say "Fuck it! Let's just bring it back home at snail pace". 4k 4:07 A guy got to my side and I decided to try to stay with him. It seemed to work. I owe my race to this guy, I won't laugh at red heads anymore, I promise. Ok, for the next week. I love to hate them too much to stop completely... for no apparent reason. 5k 4:21 Another guy joined us. 6k 4:17 Up the hill again. I thought my quads would fail a couple of times. I barely stayed with the guys there. 7k 4:14 The other guy just powered away while the red head stayed within striking distance. 8k 4:17 As we turned into the wind, the red head went away. Apparently he didn't like the idea of me drafting him the whole way. I couldn't keep up with him, the engine room was already in the red. 9k 4:19 Just. Though. 10k 4:14 ***Warning*** The dude is about to blow up! ***Warning*** About 500m from the finish, a fastie that was cooling down told me to keep my arms moving, that helped... a lot! I was so glad to cross that finish line! What would you do differently?: Know the course. Post race
Warm down: Some light stretching. I'm happy about the race because I managed to get myself back in the game after what I consider essentially mental weakness. That being said, remove that rough patch and I'm pretty sure I had that sub 42min in me. Bummer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Knowing the course. The shoes were much heavier at the end than at the beginning... full of water. Event comments: Very well organize. For 15 bucks, that was a steal! Last updated: 2010-05-06 12:00 AM

15min of light jogging with 3-4 accelerations about 30min before the start then 3-4min right before the start. I was fucking nervous... there's too much free time before those races. I prefer duathlons, it's easy to keep busy until the start.
