Swim
Comments: I underestimated how I would compare to the rest of the field. I hung towards the back and ended up getting stuck behind some slower swimmers. It felt like a more crowded swim than I had experienced in my previous 2 Mission Bay tris, but there were only 6 additional people in my AG so I'm not sure what that was about. At one point I found myself a bit off course, and at one point I reflexively kicked someone who grabbed my foot. I said I was sorry, but felt a little bad. I exited the water right next to my sister. What would you do differently?: Seed myself towards the front, navigate better. Transition 1
Comments: Almost the same exact time as last year. I was hoping for a bit of improvement, but I don't practice my transitions, so I guess I shouldn't expect it. What would you do differently?: Take less time getting my wetsuit off. Bike
Comments: About 30 seconds faster than last year, and up one place in my AG. Passed a lot of people, passed by a few, but only one woman that I saw. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a bit more, although, as I noted last time, that may have been bad for my run. Transition 2
Comments: A few seconds of improvement over last year, but I fumbled with my shoes a bit. What would you do differently?: Not sit down to put on my shoes. Run
Comments: This was my best 5k ever. I was happy with my pacing and effort level throughout the run, and gave a good push at the end. What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: Had some juice and orange slices, found my family, waited for my sister to finish. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think my performance was in line with the amount of training I've done recently, and in general this year. It's hard to say if the illness I've been fighting (much worse today, a day later) had an effect, but if it did I sure didn't notice it during the race. My primary goal had been to beat my time from last year, and my secondary goal had been to crack the top 10 in my AG, so I'm happy with my results. Event comments: A well executed race, and a fun time. Now I just need to get over this illness and resume training for Silverman. Last updated: 2010-05-08 12:00 AM

Spent a lovely weekend in San Diego with my mom and sister. Woke up early (but not as early as we should have) and we were stressing a little bit about having enough time for everything. I had a little bit of coffee and water, but didn't feel like eating anything. I've been feeling a bit off for the last week - sore throat, a bit achy - and I could feel it a bit on the way to the race. I took some Ibuprofen and started to feel better.
By the time we set up our transition areas and met up with our dad, we were running a bit behind. We rushed to the swim start just in time to join our wave a couple minutes before the start.
