Pre-race routine:

Normal light breakfast, drove 15 minutes to get to race site.
Event warmup:

Did a slow 200 yard swim.
Swim
  • 18h 20m
  • 850 yards
  • 2h 09m 25s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Swimming was the best part of my race. I finished about in the MOP and I stayed about at my 2:00/100 yd like I wanted.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

It was freaking cold outside! So I took my time inside, dried off and got my shorts, shirt, shoes and jacket on. Then ran outside putting on my helmet on.
What would you do differently?:

Pick a race that wasn't so freakin' cold.
Bike
  • 1h 21m
  • 15 miles
  • 11.11 mile/hr
Comments:

At about mile 11 I started to wonder what the heck I was doing. Couldn't find a good gear, felt wore out and the last hill was a killer.
What would you do differently?:

Before the next triathlon, I'm going to double my bike training miles. Like I saw with one poster, biking is the meat of the sandwich!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Didn't get my T2 time, basically jumped off the bike and tried to run.
What would you do differently?:

Take a couple extra seconds to stretch my legs. Had a hard time getting into the run.
Run
  • 46m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 14m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I got severe calf cramps right off the bat. Had to walk the first 1/2 mile because my legs wouldn't move after the nightmare of the last part of the bike. Just kept moving until the cramps went away then I was able to start to slowly jog. Considering all I was trying to do was finish, I did ok.
What would you do differently?:

Still need to train more on my running.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched for about 20 minutes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The wind. It sucked all my energy! But I found out I have the training base to at least finish, now I just need to keep training to get faster. Good experience.

Event comments:

Good race, lots of out of town participants. Very encouraging volunteers, well run. I will do this race again next year.

Course: First 5 miles were easy. Even the next 5 which were pretty hilly were great, felt great at the turn around then I hit the wind. O...M...G! Strong headwind the last 4 miles about 20-25 mph that felt like I was riding into a wall. Last 4 miles were also a long hill with a steep tail at the end. Literally wore me out.
