Pre-race routine:

Arrived a little after 6AM. Parking was a good distance from the race site so I carried everything with me so I wouldnt have to go back to the truck. Ate half a banana and some peanut butter. Racked the bike and then did packet pickup.
Event warmup:

I think I did some light stretching, but mostly just tried to stay limber. It was freezing cold. The wetsuit warmed me a little, but my feet and hands were frozen. I did get in the water and warm up a little.
Swim
  • 35m 45s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

So slow. I can't believe how slow I am. Oh yea, at the start of the swim the sun was glaring off the water and I could not see the yellow buoy, at all. I sighted on other swimmers, until they got so far ahead of me that I couldnt see them either. I had to stop and clear the fog from my goggles and then I was able to see the yellow buoy and I was ok from then on out. As the swim ended my calves started to cramp. Luckily I was out of the water by then, and got over it.
What would you do differently?:

go faster. I should site on an object other than the buoy, such as the big house on the shore to the right of it.
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

I do not do feet on shoes because too many people have bad things happen when they try to save a second. I stop past the mount line and mount the bike. I have pretty good luck with that.
What would you do differently?:

not mess around with socks for an oly. I was wearing pretty new shoes so I wanted to wear socks.
Bike
  • 1h 34m 56s
  • 30 miles
  • 18.96 mile/hr
Comments:

I drank the aero bottle but did not drink from the other bottle. I felt I was riding hard the entire way but the hills were tough, and my speed reflected it.
What would you do differently?:

Im not sure. I know I would drink more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I had a good T2. I could have shaved a few seconds off if I knew where the run out was.
What would you do differently?:

I need to make sure that I know where the transition exits and enter signs are.
Run
  • 56m 31s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

There was 5 aid stations and I got a cup of water from each. I drank about a sip from each cup then tossed it. My left foot was killing me. It felt like my sock was bunched up under my foot. The pain was not bad enough to make me stop and take the shoe off. Then my left calf started to feel like it was locking up. a sharp pain every so often. I never felt like I was able to let go and run.
What would you do differently?:

I would make sure I was stretched before the run.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched for a good while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My calves hurt on the run. My swim was slow because goggle issues and siting issues (and the fact that I am slow).

Event comments:

The hot dog truck was closing down before the last people finished. They just had chips and some drinks, and a few orange slices. I dont think I would do this race again.
