Run
Comments: Started off strong and felt really good. This was my 1st half and I thought finishing 2:25 and running/jogging the whole thing would be realistic based on my training. First 5k pace was 32:40, Half way point of race (6.55) was 1:10 (not sure of seconds since Garmin starts showing minutes after a hour) I did ok until the water station just past the 9 mile mark where I slowed down and drank some extra water since I was getting a headache and had stopped sweating as much (figured I was dehydrating) I just couldn't get my legs up to pace and starting at about 9.5 miles my legs felt like rubber and I had to walk and walked most of the rest of the race. I am not sure if I went out to hard or if my training just let me down. I had been doing 8,9, 10 miles in the weeks before and that was when I had problems. Had I been able to keep up I should have finsihed 2:25-2:30. I figured with doing the miles and other cross training I would have been ok. My pace was about the same or slightly slower than the 10k I did a month earlier and around my training paces so I am not sure I was running too fast at the start. What would you do differently?: More miles and longer runs. Maybe a slower pace. Bring my own water bottle (I had a fuel belt and a bottle with me but when I got out of the car I decided to leave since they had water stations every 2 miles or so on the course.) so I can drink more Post race
Warm down: Walked around with family. Went to Stir Cove and got some water, fruit and picked up one the free malted beverages they had but wound up giving it to my wife as I wasn't feeling up to it. They has a band playing and were starting the awards ceremony. Headed home What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably lack of miles. Event comments: Overall a good race. would have like some more info about pre-race like where to park, changing areas etc. The trails were in good shape but some of the roads were rutted and had potholes that were easy to twist your ankle in (Not the organizers fault since they were public roads) Police at all intersections to control traffic so that was nice.
