![]() Swim
Comments: I was able to walk a lot of the first leg - very shallow. Not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Water was fairly rough getting out there and northward current was pretty strong, which made for a nice parallel swim but was rough getting back in. What would you do differently?: Probably slow it down a little - I was a bit worn out from fighting waves and had to walk back to transition ![]() Transition 1
Comments: fairly low maintenance - no socks - but I felt like I was moving kind of slow and couldn't catch my breath after swim. What would you do differently?: Remember to bring towels ![]() Bike
Comments: Thus continues my experiment of lower cadence and tougher gears. Passed too many people on the bridge which could have been a sign that I was taking it too hard, but I never felt like I was overdoing it on the bike. What would you do differently?: Get a new bike? I'm definitely seeing an improvement in the bike so I'm interested to see what it would be like if I had a true tri-setup and a lighter bike. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: slower than I wanted (as usual). Used the shoes with speed laces and no socks which helped, but I could feel myself getting mixed up when I was trying to put my hat on. I started to put it on, then thought to myself "no - I can do that while I'm running" so I put it back down on the ground - !?!? What would you do differently?: Not let a hat confuse me. Seriously - I need to practice the transitions more. I was pretty low maintenance on this race (no socks!) and I would have been faster if I had been more focused. ![]() Run
Comments: I was doing this one to have fun, so at the first part of the run I stopped to talk to my husband and some other people, and slowed down later on the run to talk to some people who I hadn't seen in a while. I was still happy with my own pace, so I was kind of surprised to see that I was last in my AG. So the question is: does the enjoyment I have of "socializing" at the race outweigh the disappointment I see when the results show I'm last in my AG? What would you do differently?: See above. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Watch my friend cross the finish line with two of her triplets, then stretch while waiting for transition to open. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pushing too hard on the swim, then not focusing on the run. Event comments: Nice race - very friendly to novices and old-timers. Yogurt with espresso hammergel, pick up packet, wonder why there are no small shirts left when I specifically asked for one (this happens to me frequently - what's the point in asking our sizes in advance if you're not going to order enough? It's a nice technical shirt, too, and I would wear it if I got the right size. Still, all of this ranting was NOT part of my pre-race routine.) Set up transition and realize I left my towels at home, so plan on using the shirt from the race packet to wipe off my feet.
test out water to make sure it's okay without wetsuit - nice!
