Swim
Comments: Had the wonderful experience of swimming up on a guy doing the breast stroke and WHAM! Took a kick to the stomach. Blocked his next kick with a forearm, then got as far away as possible. After swimming we exited, ran across 50 yds of beach then had to run through a knee to thigh deep lagoon that was 50-60 yds across. (see photo album) What would you do differently?: MUST GET BETTER AT SWIMMING!!! However, with as many bodies as were in my wave and the misaligned bouys, I was very comfortable swimming with my head out of the water. Transition 1
Comments: 2nd fastest T1 time in group. Glad I scouted the course the day before. The shell path from the swim exit to the transition area had several deep ruts and some very rough, jagged shell. The parking lot was also the roughest I've seen so far. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Passed a lot of people on the bike, felt good. Got slightly nauseous towards the end of the ride and didn't drink enough, or take a gel before getting off of the bike. What would you do differently?: Try different nutrition products. Transition 2
Comments: 3rd fastest T2 time in group, not much I would change. Run
Comments: I loved the ice towels at mile 2! What would you do differently?: Work on having negative splits. Post race
Warm down: Found shade ASAP and got fluids. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not feeling well at the end of the bike. Event comments: Food line was very long, but they feed everyone, racers, fans, family, random people on their way to the beach. Last updated: 2010-05-12 12:00 AM

This was the first family trip "destination race." We went up Friday to the Ft. DeSoto Campground in the in-laws motorhome. Probably dehydrated a little setting up. Next time will either go a day earlier or make the wife set up if there is a heat advisory.
Rode my bike from the campground to the transition area, about 4 miles, then got marked, set up, went to the beach and waited. I was the 2nd to last wave so I stretched on the beach for a bit then went for a quick swim just before my wave started.
