Swim
Comments: This was a good swim for me. I got out right away, maintained, and brought it home. Granted it was a very short swim, I'll always take a positive swim result. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: After going from swimmer to cyclist, there as a small hill we had to run up to get to the mount line. This took a little time, but I don't think this was part of my transition time because the timing mats were at the bottom of the hill, not at the top. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition seemed to go quite well. Bike
Comments: I kept a steady pace and I pushed most of the time. If I noticed I wasn't pushing, I snapped out of it and got my head back in it and turned it back on. In those moments I would ask myself, "Are you racing or just riding?" I passed a good share of people on the bike, but I'm not sure how many of them were in the first wave vs. my wave. What would you do differently?: I think I did what I could on the day given my energy level and mental alertness at the time. Transition 2
Comments: The reverse of course is true for T2, where we dismounted and then ran down the small hill we ran up on the way out. Again, I thought this was fine. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I had not snags or lapses in judgement and carried out my transition as planned/expected. Run
Comments: I started out steady-but-slightly conservative to get a feel for where I was physically. I gradually increased my pace as I went and passed several people over the time on the course. Honestly, I was hoping to win, but I knew that wasn't going to happen when at about a half mile in the lead guy was bookin' and was on his return trip. His 5k split was sub-16, which I have yet to do in an open 5k. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I think I ran a smart race. Post race
Warm down: After I finished and shook hands with those in front of and behind me I thanked as many volunteers as I encountered on the way to transition. I then went back into the water to rinse off before gathering my gear and walking it back to the car. At this point, I jogged back to get some post-race food and for the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing, but for sake of reporting, I will add that it was VERY humid this morning. Event comments: This was a great event because Jim Mishler really made an effort to make it a low frills, low cost race. He is an outstanding race director having been in triathlon for many years and having a solid understanding what it takes to make an event like this a success. I highly recommend this race for either new athletes to triathlon or vets who want to throw down a short and fast triathlon to get their triathlon season amped up. Last updated: 2010-05-13 12:00 AM

Early wake-up, but still fairly reasonable at 4:50 a.m. I went solo this time and Maggie and the kids were able to sleep in.
At two pieces of toast, some water...later a Clif Bar and water in route to the venue.
Walked the 3/8 mile to the transition with all my gear and later did a short swim warm-up.
