Swim
Comments: Really felt like I had one of the better swims I have ever had. There was some bumping the first 200 yds or so, but it did not throw me off any. I was able to sight fairly well, although the first buoy was very hard to see. By the time I hit the last buoy, I was already going through my transition in my head. I felt great at this point. What would you do differently?: Maybe go harder?? I was thrilled to be 8th out of the water in my AG! Transition 1
Comments: T1 went smoothly, no complaints. Last time I did this race T1 was 2:31, so major improvments! Bike
Comments: I felt good on the bike, I wanted to stay around 20 mph for the ride and I got close. I felt like I was in the right gearing the entire ride.Lower back ached about 15 miles into the ride, but other than that, I really felt good coming off the bike! What would you do differently?: Shoot for a 21-22 mph average. Transition 2
Comments: No complaints here either. My transitions have really improved. Run
Comments: The run was draining. I felt really good coming out of T2, but soon I got hit by the heat. It really zapped me hard, was already int he 90s y the time I got to the run. Once in the trail, it got worse due to no air circulation. I did alot of walking, which disappointed me. I really wanted a better run, but mentally I was drained. What would you do differently?: train in the heat more?? Post race
Warm down: ice cold wet towel on head and headed to the sprinkler tent for a few minutes. Needed a few minutes after finishing to restore myself. What limited your ability to perform faster: the heatwas draining. Event comments: Great race, great course. There did not seem to be alot of food afterwards (fajitas and watermelons) Pleanty of drinks available. This is one of my favorite races each year, just was very disappointed with my run. Packed my bag the night before and double checked it that mroning. Got up early and took a hot shower, had a half of a PB&J sandwich and went to the restroom while waiting for my ride.
Got transition area setup the way I wanted, luckily I got there early enough that I could pick a good spot. Went for a swim before the race to get used to the water. Then hung out and talked to friends and waited for wife and kids to show up. Once the family showed up, I was ready to race.
