Swim
  • 07m 8s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 24s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim. It was awesome starting with only one wave ahead of me, there were fewer people to swim around. I just wish the swim part was longer.
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Had a little trouble with my sunglasses being fogged up when I put them on, so I struggled with that and then trying to run at the same time. I might have been able to run a little faster if I wasn't trying to mess with all of that.

Comments:

Good ride for sure. I definitely had more in me to go faster but that was not part of my race plan. I tried keeping the HR around 160 because I felt that would leave me with some energy to bang out the run. Looking back, I'm not sure it had the effect I was looking for or not. I wish there was another race next weekend where I could just try leaving it all out on the course with the bike and then see what was left for the run just so that I could compare.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly ride faster?? Its going to take some more trial and error to find what works best for me.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Easy transition, I had the rack all to myself and so did not have to mess with squeezing it in anywhere.
Run
  • 23m 51s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I wasn't dissapointed with the run but I didn't feel like my legs being tired was the factor that held me back from going faster. I'm not sure how to explain it but I've talked about it with Jaime and what is holding me back is the feeling that I just can't breath fast enough to go any faster. My head gets really hot feeling and the breathing get very labored. I have not come up with a reason or a solution for this although I did throw a cup of water on me around 2.5 miles and that REALLY helped out. The run though is something I really want to improve upon. There were about 4 guys who were all running about the same pace and we all kept each other in check, I just wish I could have had the speed to gain and pass them. Maybe I just need to suck it up and try to make it hurt more but that is easier said than done!

I also want to look into some new shoes to race in. I got a bunch of blisters on my feet after this run and its because the shoes I'm running in really aren't mean to be run in without socks. So I think I will save up and try on a couple of the Zoot shoes to see how they feel.
What would you do differently?:

More training.
Post race
Event comments:

Very nice race and a great post race area. I talked to a couple of the guys that ended up just beating me out and it was nice to hear that they were trying to catch me on the bike the entire time up until about a mile to go. At least I can say the swim gave me that little bit of an advantage.

Can't wait to see what Ben and Aaron have in mind for the Houston Tri in September, its going to be my first attempt at the Olympic distance!
