Swim
Comments: Swim includes about a minute run up to T1. Based on my OWS at Chatfield, the day prior, is close to where I should be. Found a decent set a feet and stayed on them for the first 500 or so and realized I should've been swimming much faster. Went around him and pushed it into the beach. What would you do differently?: Wished I swam harder from the start, but I just got comfortable not really pushing the pace. I know I can swim much faster than this, but overall I'm pretty happy seeing how my time in the pool has been very limited this year. I'm swimming faster on way fewer hours. Transition 1
Comments: Really hammered T1 fastest in division and right up there with the elites. I'm sure I've said it before, but DeSoto may not be the fastest suit in the water, but they sure come off easy. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Not sure if it was the conditions or what but my power was 10 watts higher than I averaged last year, but my time was slower. Not really a concern though cuz I was the only one in my age group that averaged over 25 mph. That makes me very happy! My bike mileage is way down from this time last year, but I'm doing a lot of quality and not just turning wheels to pad my training log. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I drilled it to the best of my ability on the day. Transition 2
Comments: Not much to say here. 2nd fastest T2 in division. Not sure where I lost that 8 seconds. Racked the bike, got my shoes on, and ran out with race belt and visor in hand. What would you do differently?: Can't complain. Run
Comments: What happened here is beyond me. I've been running this pace for twice the mileage in training. I didn't overcook the bike. I felt like I was running much quicker. My 5k times this year have been faster than ever before. There were mile markers and at the first one I glanced at my watch to check lap split and thought "Wow that was a slow opening mile". I racked next to Uli Bromme and she asked me if I thought the run felt long. Told her the first mile felt long by a ways and she agreed. Long or not it was good for 4th in Age Group. What would you do differently?: Obviously run way faster. My short speed has gotten much faster in the last 6 weeks, but it's still a weakness for me in this sport. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Just jogged around until I found my wonderful cheering squad. What limited your ability to perform faster: No excuses Event comments: The first race of the season and I'm satisfied. The focus this year will be on getting faster and learning how to be a good father. That said I may or may not do any long course. I'm leaning towards doing Lake Stevens 70.3 again (cuz it's my favorite HIM course) and a smattering of X-Terra races. I know I got some good fitness right now and it's just a matter of getting my head into race mode. Last updated: 2010-05-14 12:00 AM

Stayed in Longmont the day before. Was a little worried cuz the whole family is pretty sick right now. My daughter had a horrible nights sleep. I swear nothing is more heartbreaking than seeing your baby sick for the first time. This was her first time in a hotel and our first time racing with a newborn. Beyond that it was the usual race morning.
Ran out on the road for about a mile, got my wetsuit on and swam out to the first bouy and back.
