Swim
Comments: I don't swim too well in cold water, or warm water for that matter and went really slow. What would you do differently?: Learning to sight better will be helpful Transition 1
Comments: forgot to pull my goggles and cap into my sleeve and ended up losing my goggles. tant pis What would you do differently?: not drop my goggles Bike
Comments: I had a bit of trouble getting my shoes to lay flat through T1 and will definitely figure out a better rubber band solution. What would you do differently?: My toes were totally numb after the swim and I had no feeling in my left foot at the end of the ride. I should have tried to wiggle them a bit more early before the end to get some circulation going. Transition 2
Comments: good quick transition running through the mud :) Run
Comments: definetly my best run in a triathlon yet. My feet felt like lead until half way through. Once they stopped feeling numb I pushed harder What would you do differently?: pushed harder earlier Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: The bike course and run course were really slippery and wet in places. I am paranoid about sliding out in tight corners and consequently took it really easy on the sharp 90 degree turns with pavement markings Event comments: This had to have been a tough event to be the RD. With all the rain the course was a muddy mess, the transition area was wet and most of the rest of the park was submerged in about 3 inches of water (I am not kidding). The run was changed and matched up with the bike route which meant the lanes were single file and very narrow. Its lucky that there were no serious crashes. But they did the best they could given the miserable weather the last few weeks. I did appreciate the free ice bath at the end of the race (i jumped back in the water. HA HA) my total time was almost exactly the same as last year. I was slower in the water and on the bike though. I attribute that to the cold water, the wet corners and the funky narrow no pass zones. with the top finishers being about 4 minutes slower that last year I think I did pretty well. Even though I was slow in the water and slower than hoping for on the bike I think did pretty well. I am really excited about at nearly top 10% finish and a sub 7 minute mile pace on the run. Drove to the start from Oak Harbor eating a giant bowl of granola on the way
racked the gear and went for a walk/run to get the lower extremities warmed up and "cleaned out"
