Swim
Comments: I so didn't want to get in that water, it was really cold outside! The only consolation was that it was warmer in the water than it was outside. So once I was in I was fine. I drafted pretty well but a couple times I got kicked and had to kind of wait and readjust so that I could find a new course where no one else was. No fogging of goggles which was great and I was able to figure out the course despite having no idea which direction it was taking me! I'm glad to see that I was under 2 min/100 yards! That is a good pace for me! Transition 1
Comments: Had some trouble getting my suit off b/c I was so cold. My feet were numb and my socks were turned inside out. What would you do differently?: Practice transitions! Make sure my socks are turned inside in. Get a tri suit so I don't have to take the time to put on my cycling jersey. Use water bottles instead of my camelback so I don't have to take time to put that on too. Bike
Comments: Also had some trouble with my new deraillers, my rear derailler kept clicking to a more difficult gear in the middle of the hills, that was tough. The only way I could keep it in a low gear was if I held it down the entire time up the hill. Also I thought my tire had gone flat so I stopped for that (turned out it was tape I had run over and it was sticking to the inside of my fork and interfering with my spokes) and then I stopped again when my chain dropped (on the inside luckily so it wasn't too bad). Kind of a rough ride! What would you do differently?: Need to ride more! Transition 2
Comments: Good transition here. Run
Comments: My legs were pretty tired and by the end my left quad was starting to seize. I had to walk up some of the hills. I just told myself that it was all mental and I decided to push through it and give it my all. At the very end another woman who was running with me encouraged me and just said, okay, come on we can do this, and the two of us sprinted it in. That was all I needed to motivate me to push through to the end. What would you do differently?: Not much, I think I could have run much better if I had trained more for the bike. Post race
Warm down: Walked back to the swim start to collect the stuff I had left, looked for some post race food but couldn't find any, so I headed back to the transition area and loaded up my bike and headed home. Jeff had donuts waiting for me when I got home! I know, not the best thing but wow, they were yummy! What limited your ability to perform faster: My biking endurance! I miss my training buddy from last summer, she was a great motivator! Event comments: No food for the athletes who don't belong to one of the local clubs? My other races have all had some kind of post-race food so I was kind of surprised by that. I would have stayed to cheer other people on but I was so starved!!!!!!!!! Coffee and PBJ, water, my real estate agent ended up being a few bikes down from me, so I hung out with her and her friend until our swim wave started
Didn't warm up, transition closed which meant I didn't have my running shoes so I just found the warmest spot in the sun that I could
