Swim
Comments: As to be expected with zero swim training. The first 200-300 meters felt fine, but the lack of training started to kick in shortly thereafter. Transition 1
Comments: I was slow to dry off and decided to add a top layer for extra warmth in casae it started to rain again. What would you do differently?: Pick up the pace a little more. I was a little too casual in T1. Bike
Comments: My main goal (other than to have fun versus racing) was to focus on the run, so I tried to maintain an effort level near 85% on the bike to keep my legs more fresh for the run. I used high cadence on the inclines and used high gearing on the flats and declines. What would you do differently?: I suppose I could have opted to put more effort in to get closer to 20 mph. Transition 2
Comments: Shed the exstra top layer, changes shoes and was out. What would you do differently?: Zip ties would have been appropriate if racing, but instead had to tie each shoe. Run
Comments: Goal was to break 8:00 minute/mile pace. Mission accomplished. What would you do differently?: I had more in the tank than I should have at race-end, so I could have pushed harder on the run and/or bike. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: "Real" training of only 3 weeks. Breakfast choice - stomach was bloated all morning. Pre-race bathroom break - raced on a full bladder the entire race. Event comments: Two observations: 1) Road conditions for bike course were rough, but that is out of race directors control (supposed to be repaved next year) 2) Too few markers on the swim course. Even for a good swimmer it was difficult to see the next market at multiple points in the swim. Last updated: 2010-05-17 12:00 AM
