Swim
Comments: Jellyfish, Jellyfish, Jellyfish!!!!!! Vaseline doesn't help like it should. Got stung bad on my left armpit and shoulder. Took a couple on the neck and face. Otherwise my swim went well. Only problem with course was the first to second bouy was too far and difficult to sight off of. What would you do differently?: Wear a full-armed wetsuit. Otherwise I think it went well. Transition 1
Comments: This was the first time that transition has not been at my bike and in a changing tent instead. Went smoothly but did rush a little. What would you do differently?: Practiced transitioning out of a bag instead of having everything already lying out there. Bike
Comments: Hills......the one bridge that was bigger than a speed bump I handled well. Also as for gear changes not a lot of them on the pancake road we were on but when I had to do them, it went well. Felt great on the bike. Was able to keep a good cadence that allowed me to stay near to Hudnick, which will prove important for later reasons. Fortunately to my benefit as well, he had an attraction to POPs that allowed me to make some time up. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: Only had to get off bike and hand it to a volunteer who then racked it for me. Got in the tent for a quick change, into POP and then out on course. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Wait I was wrong I forgot to take my Aleve in T2 because I did not see it. That is one thing I would have changed. Run
Comments: Had a great run with Hudnick. He really made the run great. He has been a great training partner and to finish the race next to his side seemed too perfect. Besides all thet goodness of being with Hudnick for the run, at points my stomach seemed a little too full of water and Ithrew up a few time but felt better immediately afterwards. Saltines helped alot. Walked every aid station for about 1 minute, occassionally longer. Also had Hudnick's nieces and nephews cross the finish line with us since this is what he really wanted. What would you do differently?: Try to watch fluid intake a little more carefully on end of bike and run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around chatting with family members. Had some water. Went in to get pizza, cookies and water. Had massage then changed clothes. Gathered up race stuff. Went back to hotel to stretch, shower and sleep. What limited your ability to perform faster: Having this be my first IM distance race and not knowing how I was going to do. Event comments: Vigo puts on great races. This was small but well-organized and a great first-timer race. Woke up. Had breakfast of PB&J, vanilla Ensure and Power Bar Endurance. Got dressed. Packed car. Went to Great MArsh Park to check on bike one more time and fill aerobottle. Went to start and stretched and finished prepping for race.
Actually had no official warm-up. Stretched a little in the hotel before going to the start. Did not get in the water until the start.
