Swim
Comments: Overall the swim went well. I didn't try to push too hard in the beginning but still ended up more out of breath than normal. Since my training volume has been very low for the last couple months, I wasn't surprised that it felt a littler harder than normal. Sighting was about average for me. I didn't end up radically off course but did swing just a little wide on the third leg. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 1
Comments: I'm wasting more time than I should in T1. My bike shoes take a bit to get on and running in them isn't great. Even worse, I wasted at least ten seconds putting on my Garmin. I really wanted it for the bike speed/cadence data but it adds time to an already slow transition. T1 time wasn't captured by the timing mats due to a water issue with the mats. I'm basing the time on information from my Garmin. What would you do differently?: Think about getting tri bike shoes and practicing a shoes on bike mount. Also consider a more permanent computer on the bike so I don't waste time with the Garmin. Bike
Comments: Low training volume struck again, making this more challenging from a muscular perspective than some previous races. I was fairly out of breath by the time I rolled into T2. I was only passed a few times and managed to repass one of those people. What would you do differently?: Given the lack of training volume I thought it went well. Train more. Transition 2
Comments: I came into T2 fairly breathless but managed a reasonable transition. The speed laces on the running shoes are awesome. What would you do differently?: Consider practicing leaving shoes on the bike and running barefoot. Run
Comments: Running on the grassy sections and a few of the trail sections was a little rough due to slightly uneven footing. It wasn't anything bad but I suspect it slowed me down just a bit. I starteded the run feeling tired and had the feeling I was going to cramp up about a mile into the race. I slowed it down just a bit and made it through with a decent time, though not close to a PR. What would you do differently?: More bike training should have left me a little less wasted for the run which could have improved performance. Post race
Warm down: No real warm-down after the race. I grabbed some water and Gatorade and found Jen. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Starting a new job, buying a new house and getting married in a sixth month window is not a recipe for high training volume. I'm looking forward to upping the volume a bit now that things are getting settled. Event comments: This was a well-run race, particularly since it was the first year. The volunteers did a great job and course marking was good. There were a couple spots that were just a little confusing but volunteers were onhand to direct people. The race director did a good job of keeping everyone informed. It was also the first race that someone actually announced my name as I was crossing the finish line which seemed like a very nice touch. Last updated: 2010-05-18 12:00 AM

Woke up early and had a small Clif Bar and some coffee for breakfast.
Swam a bit less than a hundred yards just to get the wetsuit adjusted. Flushed the suit with some water to stay cool while we waited for the start.
