Run
Comments: Race started and James took off in front of me. Took me a while to catch him. Looked at my Garmin and it said 5:37 pace. I thought, "great, starting too fast again, but it feels ok." Hit the first mile on the Garmin and it said 6:18. Look out Gary I'm flying! Then about :40 seconds later I hit the 1st mile marker on the course and start to get the clue that the garmin is having trouble with the distance. Look down again and it say 3:45 pace. Oh, ok, something is wrong with the garmin. The rest of the run, I just went by feel. I had not raced a 5k yet this year and had no idea where I'd be. Garmin ended up saying like 3.4 miles instead of 3.1. Not sure why it had so much trouble, turns? trees? It did take it long time to latch onto the satellites. What would you do differently?: 21:48 in 2009. Not where I was, but with the PF issues and such, I'm pretty happy with this time. Happy, but not satisfied. Transition 1
Comments: What the world happened here? All I had to do was take shoes off, put shoes on, and put helmet on. Had a little trouble balancing to get bike shoes on. I'm not good at or a fan of the flying mount. Saw James coming into T1 as I was leaving. What would you do differently?: :56 in 2009. So I guess I got faster, lol. Bike
Comments: I love the bike finish. I pushed start to finish. Started picking people off from the start. With my slower run, it provides plenty of people to pass on the bike. I was 22nd at the turnaround. (Clydes and Teams started 3 minutes ahead, so no way to know exactly where I was). Slowly reeled in numbers 21, 20, and 19. Saw # 18 ahead, but didn't see anyone else in front of him to catch. Got to a turn and a hill and saw there were 7-8 people in front that would be possible to catch. These are fast people and it took all I had and a little time to catch them. I passed 2 racers within the last 3/4 mile. These are guys who are not used to getting passed I could tell. Which made it all the more better :). Finish stretch is a rough stretch of road. I pushed to stay in front of the last racers I passed and just hoped to stay upright. Bike finishes are soooo fun!!! What would you do differently?: 38:03 in 2009. Win the lotto and get some of those sweet wheels I saw there. the wheel envy was powerful today. Post race
Warm down: Little ride, talked, waited for awards, then rode 52 miles home :) What limited your ability to perform faster: The only thing I can think of would be to properly taper for this race, but this is just a race for fun on the way to IMWI. Event comments: Fun, fun race. Need more like this with a bike finish :) Last updated: 2010-05-18 12:00 AM

Early departure to get to race site and get signed up. Caravanned down with Pat, Kathy, James, and Bob. Met Brian there. Todd (Kathy's husband), Mom, and Megan came to cheer.
Running behind. Race start at 0730, at 0715 I still didn't have my bike in transitions. Hurried and got to start line with about 5 minutes to spare.
