Pre-race routine:

Got up about 4 am and had a light breakfast then drove to Madison. Cliff bar about 45 minutes before swim
Swim
  • 44m 33s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Just need to do more work on technique. Was not really tired, just very slow
Transition 1
  • 04m 35s
Comments:

Transition area was about 200 yds from lake with an uphill path on grass, which I walked. Transition was slower than I wanted because of putting on compression socks. They were helpful so I would do it again. I was not really hungry but decided to eat a cliff bar because I was not sure if I would bonk at this new distance....ultimately a mistake
Bike
  • 1h 31m 45s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.25 mile/hr
Comments:

I ride a rode bike so eventually I am sure that I will benefit from a tribike, however, overall I was happy with my ride. Still need lots of time in the saddle to build my motor.
What would you do differently?:

Not eat a cliff bar after the swim....really started to come back on me as I took in fluid.
Transition 2
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Not sure why I was so slow since I just had to put my running shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice all of those neat little triathlon moves like jumping off moving bike etc..
Run
  • 1h 26m 10s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was a disaster, the heat and sloshing stomach did me in...walked more than I ran.
What would you do differently?:

Not eat a cliff bar after the swim (my cliff bar comments should not be seen as a slam on the cliff bar but rather the fact that I did not need it)
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need mrre quality training and learn from my mistakes

Event comments:

Despite my poor time, particularly in the run, I was happy with the race and feel that I am making good progress. This race, which only had a 100 or so racers, was full of a lot of very experienced and strong triathletes. There were not as many relative newbies (like myself) as compared to the other races (3), all sprints, that I have done. You certainly cannot "fake" it at this distance. Still I learned alot.

As far as the race organization it was pretty good although the post race activities were minimal. I guess I've been spoiled by the awesome post race activities from the Red Hills Tri....pretty hard standard to meet.
