Swim
Comments: High point of the day. This is home turf, so I had no nervousness at all and did not warm-up. I am still new to OWS, so I was a little shocked that I did as well as I did. What would you do differently?: Waited for my group to start and then ended up passing some. Missed out on drafting opportunity. Next time, swim with the pack and don't let the chaos discourage me. Transition 1
Comments: No tea party, but my suit got stuck. Not bad, overall. Climbed the steps carefully at swim out. Have volunteered there in the past and seen many falls. What would you do differently?: Pull the suit more aggressively. Bike
Comments: Rode the course with Kathy several time, so that helped. In reality, I did not have enough bike training done to do this leg effectively. Gel at 20' and 50' What would you do differently?: More time in the saddle. Butt pain was an issue in the second half and it required real mental focus to keep pedaling. Transition 2
Comments: OK transition. My rack partners left me little room, so took two tries to rack the bike. Socks on OK (left them on the tips of my run shoes to stretch, but didn't tie right running shoe well enough and had to re-tie on the course. Nearly forgot to take my helmet off. What would you do differently?: Wise up and leave the running hat in plain sight. Run
Comments: Out of gas. Running is my strength, but I was out of gas. Our wave went second to last and the roads were heating up. Only two of six stations had Heed. Felt light headed and felt like puking a few times and walked more than usual. What would you do differently?: Need to do more bike/run bricks. Should have better athletic base next time. Bring my own fluids - period. Post race
Warm down: Walked a little. Stood up. Saw the family and then visited Tri-NE and BT friends. Stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weakness in my baseline athleticism and experience. Travel interfered with the full completion of my training plan, but the 16 week BT plan is to finish and by that measure, I did fine. Event comments: Good race, very well managed. Slight delay at start was mitigated by the last swim wave. Police at every intersection and volunteers at every turn. My kids had a great time volunteering and it is clear to me that the RD earnestly cares about the athletes. Last updated: 2010-05-21 12:00 AM

Ate fruit & veggies, rice and protein Saturday. Fairly early to bed Saturday night. Woke at 5, Special K & milk, coffee, banana and sugar-free Red Bull prior to race. One Powerbar Endurance gel prior to race. No GI issues.
In the eighth wave (40 minute delay), so no bike and run warm-up. No swim warm-up, didn't want to have to take off and put wet wetsuit back on.
