Swim
Comments: After transition closed, the Sprinters had to stand around for 45-60 mins before starting. Made my muscles get tight. Took a gel pack 25 mins before start time. Swim didn't start off on time. Did a wet start, which was something I hadn't practiced or prepared for. I seeded myself on the inside towards the back but should have seeded myself more towards the front. I kept swimming into other swimmers which kept throwing my breathing off. What would you do differently?: Do some push-ups to keep the blood in my muscles. Do some warmup strokes before I start my event. Seed myself at a more forward position in the group. Transition 1
Comments: Liked the transition portion. Had a little trouble getting my jersey on after being wet but once I get that on it was smooth sailing. Wore my running shoes while I biked since I didn't have bike shoes. Probably tooked a few extra seconds but made up for it on my start. What would you do differently?: Maybe get a tri jersey to swim in and bike shoes so I don't have to wear my running shoes while I bike. Bike
Comments: Hilly at times but great course overall. Had police on the full path the entire time. Signs posted and cones lined out giving guidance for the course. Used a Trek 720 Hybrid bike. Found out the hard way, hybrid mountain bikes work you harder than road bikes. What would you do differently?: Get a road bike with bike shoes. Tape a gel pack on my bike to have midway through. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't have to do much but rack my bike, take my helmet off and put on my running belt since I biked with my running shoes. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Wear a sweat band to keep the sweat out of my eyes. Run
Comments: Started off real well but ran out of energy about a 1.5 miles into it. Had to stop and walk for a bit. After that it was sort of slow making it back. What would you do differently?: Not walk. Post race
Warm down: Walked to get my heart rate down. Post race protein shakes and water bottles were handed out at the finish line. Had a couple of those and some gatorage. Stretched for 10 minutes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Didn't have enough energy after the bike. I will work harded on replenishing my glycogen levels after my workouts. Event comments: Really have no race to base off of since this was my first race but it seemed well planned and organized. Woke up at 5:00 AM. Ate a Cliff bar, slice of toast with peanut butter.
Ran around for about 5 mins to loosen up my muscles.
