Event warmup:

Swim 10 min w/ various drills, practice flip turns under lane lines.
Swim
  • 05m 19s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Nice swim, relaxed long strokes, passed one swimmer in 5th lane, fumbled w/ checking time on watch while climbing ladder, may have cost me a few secs. which was critical when I got beat for 1st place by :06.
What would you do differently?:

flip turn on all walls, look at watch on run to T1 and subtract est. secs instead of wasting time.
Transition 1
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

perfect transition
What would you do differently?:

just get faster
Bike
  • 40m 2s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 20.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Little cramping up in left glute, wore aero helmet for 1st time and liked it. Had some gear shifting issues while in small ring/bigger cogs, maybe from installation of disc cover, but didn't cost me time. Tried to stay in big ring for Nice Hill climb #1 but felt a slowdown so got in small ring and hammered up. Stayed in saddle on climb #2 and was faster/more comfortable. Tucked in and used descents well for leg recovery. Got behind pickup truck pulling out of mini-airport parking lot, almost got a draft off of it, but had to pass (27mph).
What would you do differently?:

stick with staying in the saddle and small ring on climbing Nice Hill. Spin less on last few minutes and keep up speed all the way up to dismount.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

A little sluggish on getting shoes on, hard to do went out of breath still from bike and bending over (restricts breathing). Maybe bringing leg/foot up instead of bending so far down will help. Plan was to pull Garmin off bike mount and put on wrist before dismount, but forgot.
What would you do differently?:

Try putting shoe on while on one leg, put Garmin on wrist before dismount.
Run
  • 22m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Sluggish start, just went I got feet under me had to head back uphill. Started to warm up w/ humidity. Kept pace going up hills. High cadence, foot w/ PF felt perfect. Good sprint finish.
What would you do differently?:

More bricks for sprint training, but just did Lone Star 70.3, so not enough time to recover plus train for sprint.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, calf massage from Mulhall. Fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training was limited for this race distance. Would like to have known run course before race day.

Event comments:

Great job PlayTri & Tricowtown, looking forward to many more.
