Overall Rank = 222/251
Age Group = Womens 40-44
Age Group Rank = 9/9
Pre-race routine:

usual oatmeal and coffee. rode to transition. discovered rear brake not ready for big hill! Thanks goodness Wheely Fun / Cyclesport had techs there as I had no tools with me.

Event warmup:

Easy swim focusing on sighting.
Swim
  • 17m 4s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

sighting less drunken than usual for me :-)

The swim felt solid and powerful. I was able to bilateral breath consistently and passed quite a few people. Started outside front and that seemed again to be a good spot for me. ran up hill to transition at moderate speed.
What would you do differently?:

run to T1 faster continue work on sighting
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

still slow

Tim and family cheered me onto the bike. Went out of T1 ready to rock.

Officials strongly suggested people not do the shoes attached to bike mount because of the hill straight out of T1. They said every year they see people fall over trying to get their shoes on and hitting that hill.
What would you do differently?:

practice T1. I hadn't and it shows
Bike
  • 48m 37s
  • 13.05 miles
  • 16.11 mile/hr
Comments:

gearing trouble- bike didn't shift right. wouldn't shift consistently and it killed me on a couple of early hills. then couldn't get into big ring for several flats and ended up way slower than my usual training speed. went into the run totally blown and pissed. drank and gel on bike
What would you do differently?:

time to have the gears checked I guess
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

some jerk racked their bike rear wheel right on top of my gear. had to pry it out. stopped to drink

Tim and family there to cheer me on - the one bright spot!
Run
  • 37m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 12m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

slow for me - probably because my legs were gone after bad gearing on the bike hills and my attitude sucked. I even walked a bit. I was just pissed at the whole thing, knowing I wasn't going to make my goals.
What would you do differently?:

attitude didn't help.

don't walk. HTFU and hang in there
Post race
Warm down:

walked slowly. drank a bottle of water, ate oranges and watermelon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

bike/gearing trouble/hills.

Event comments:

challenging hill on bike coming out of T1 makes this race particularly interesting.
