Swim
Comments: The water was perfect. My intent was to go out hard and then settle into a pattern. Not sure how well that worked for me. I got a little panicky and never really settled into a rhythm. What would you do differently?: Not sure. may need some more OWS. Transition 1
Comments: T1 a huge improvement for me. Spent time tweaking this because I have and issue with being caught in the moment and for getting to put on my helmet. T1 set up. Pull off cap in goggles on my way in while running. had towel in front of my stuff to wipe feet while putting on helmet. Helmet on top of my bike shoes. Glasses rubber banded on my bike no need to put them on until comfortable on the bike. Shoes on, shoes opened unstrapped and ready. -bike shoes no socks GU taped to the bike. Forgot to cut it open. So had to rip it with teeth on course cost me a little time to slow down on bike to rip and sip. LOVED this races bike racks. Only 5 bikes per rack PLENTY of room!!! What would you do differently?: Cut open GU 2x caff. Rubber band from glasses feel off on course make sure it is more secured. Practice for speed. Bike
Comments: Pushed pretty hard on the bike. I notice having people really give me the extra motivation I need to go faster. I am slow on my own. May need to find a local group to ride with. Able to encourage some on course. :) that is always fun! One chick stayed in the left lane whole way not sure if it was to be intimidating or what. she passed me. I told her, "DIG DEEP" she passed and stayed on left had to ask her to move over. I passed her and never gave her the chance to pass me again. She would try to pass me and I would give it gas. Yay, for me for not letting her overtake me. Very motivating for me to have her there. I really should have thanked her :) She made me maintain a 20-21 mph the whole way back into transition. In trans she pulled up next to me and by her aggressive behavior I culd tell she was ticked but she was a relayer so I didn't need to worry about her for the rest of the race. So thanks for the motivation and see ya!!! :) on to T2! ha! What would you do differently?: Work on hilly courses and build speed. This is where I can gain the biggest advantage time wise. I could easily gain a few minutes here with some extra work. Transition 2
Comments: Could get off bike a lot quicker. Still getting used to clips. Legs a little wobbly after hammering. Got to rack took my time racking. entered on the back of rack hooked my bike in then walked around the rack to get to stuff. :( Not so good. Got to running shoes. MADE A TAKE OFF HELMET sign and taped it underneath bike shoes. It was the first thing I saw when I look down at running shoes. took off helmet. took off bike shoes. Grabbed my Arnica pills tossed them in my mouth. I am convinced ARNICA under the tongue wards off any side stitches. Had socks rolled tucked in running shoes ZOOTS Used Zoot racing shoes with my own inserts. Slipped on shoes. Srabbed race belt and dashed off BARE BONES RACE style 3 items only socks, shoes, belt!!! No Garmin, no headband no comfort items. After all it is a race no need to be comfortable. What would you do differently?: Need to practice getting of bike running in b. shoes Reracking bike so I can rack and have easy access to run shoes. Could knock of 30 seconds here with some work. Run
Comments: Legs not very strong after bike. Felt heavy calves so tight not in running mood. Went out slow. Wanted to walk kept telling myself. You can walk at the water stop. Something I never normally allow myself during a race that I have the past two races now. Annoying! I remembered me GU in pocket. .3 miles in after seeing some one else using one. Slowed down to ingest some GU 1/2 packet and mouth so dry not easy to do. Got to the water stop. Then right past it after clensing my mouth decided to ingest the rest of the GU oh man. Not again. Cotton mouth and GU don't go. Had to wait 1 more mile to get some more water. Got a lot faster on the return . HAd alot of gas on finish shoot . What would you do differently?: Need longer runs in training 4-6 miles to help in the running-stamina area. Take in GU earlier in run. Right before water stop or at the end of bike leg. Brick more to prepare legs for the onslaught Post race
Warm down: Walked to find family and Friends! What limited your ability to perform faster: Train further distances, longer and harder. Event comments: LOVED THIS RACE! Will do again! Family friendly! Location GRRRRREAT! Last updated: 2010-05-24 12:00 AM

Ate well yesterday. Dinner was 6in Subway chicken sub. Lots of water yesterday.
Got up at 3:45 put on a pot of full octane coffee. Norm for me is 1/2 calf. Sucked down a big glass of water. Made a peanut butter english muffin. Felt a little nauseous. Couldn't get in much coffee.
No sleep due to son being up all night mixed with pre-race gitters. At the time I started to doze off 1 am he woke up and would not go back down until after I left for the race.
Race was 2 hrs away. We left a 4:20am. Stopped twice to go to the little girls room.
Stopped all liquid intake 6:00 am race started 7:30. It takes 45 min from mouth to toilet for a well hydrated body. Wanted to make sure no potty stops on race course.
Got to the race picked up packet. Set up transition went to potty again and 30 min before race sucked down a 1x caff GU and jumped into the water. Water felt great swam half the course and got a good feel for the current.
