Swim
Comments: When I woke up this morning, my first thought was "damn, my shoulders ache!" By the time I was swimming again, I felt fine. That surprised me, so I gave it everything I had left. I spent most of the time side by side with the same guy, and no, it was not Glen. We managed not to slug each other but at times he would change direction and swim into me. Him, not me! LOL At one point I actually swam up some guys back side and ended up with a hand full of butt! Ooops, sorry bout that! Payback was being kicked in the jaw. I definately had it coming. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I am pleased with that swim. Transition 1
Comments: (3:30 in 2004) gotta love running up hill from the water, but I did run. Smooth transition. Wasted too much time trying to decide if I should wear sunglasses or not. It hasn't been an issue for me at all this summer. Ended up wearing them after talking to a man on the rack near me. What would you do differently?: put the damn glasses on and go. Bike
Comments: I was hoping to be under 1:30 for the bike. I don't remember being faster in '04. I remember a suffer fest. Oh well. My riding stinks. I gave up almost 100 places from the swim to the bike because of my lousy riding. This will change when I hook up with "Princess Roo." Dropped my water bottle in the first mile or two. Stopped to pick it up because I didn't want to be without it for another 20-something miles. Remembered to take Endurolytes which kept away the cramping I suffered thru last week, and also drank my Ultima, which helps me to drink enough water. I was passed by lots of people on the bike leg, but I'm fine with that. Thanks to starting in the first wave, I was never alone, which is more often than not the case. Saw Joanne and Kathy pass me early and then just waited to be reeled in by the other BT'ers. If not on the bike, then later on the run. I like the changes to the bike course. Did not mind not riding on RT 105, and that stretch of RT 18. These were nice quiet country roads. Traffic was very light. Contemplated an ice coffee when I reached County Rd and saw Dunkin D right in front of me (but not seriously. Ya have to FINISH before you get the reward coffee). Note to self: BIKE MORE What would you do differently?: as above. BIKE MORE Transition 2
Comments: 2:53 in 2004) Almost blew by the dismount location. Just kind of off in the ozone, visualing getting thru T2. I ride with no socks so T2 is where I put my now dry feet into socks. Use today's tiny towel to get the grass off and away we go. Cold. I was cold on the bike and am still cold heading out for the run. Today I chose to run in just my trisuit, no shirt over it. I've never done that in a race before and thought I'd be pretty uncomfortable and self conscious. Never happened. Once I was out running, all thoughts about being damn near nekkid were gone. What would you do differently?: Nothing. T2 was pretty good I think. Run
Comments: only gave up 20 places from the bike to the run. The bike is what kills me. But oh yeah, this is about the run. All I could remember is the death march on this course 2 years ago, and last month after TAGP and I rode 2 loops of the bike course. I made up my mind to do a 5/1 run/walk combo and avoid all of that. I went with 5/1 because that was what was set on my watch even tho I don't remember setting that. I figured that would work out to walking about 1 minute out of every mile. It worked out almost exactly that way. What amazes me the most is that this run was only 2 minutes slower than my stand-alone 10K a month and a half ago. I'd like to do another one of those and see if I can get under an hour....but I digress. I was pleased with the run. Jorge, thanks for the inspiration on the run course. That came just before I was hunted down by TAGP LOL Just in time my friend, just in time! So this was right around mile 3, and there was May running strong as usual. Looking good my friend, IMLP better watch out! What would you do differently?: Keep traiing for the run and not do a run/walk combo for a 10K. Post race
Warm down: AWESOME greeting at the finish line. Saw the BT'ers on the side of the finish chute and got the obligatory water spray. RD Eric Averill was personally congratulating every finisher at the finish line. I had a short chat with him and thanked him for putting the Athenas in the first wave. I explained that when I start in the back I am alone for the entire race. When I am up front, even tho I am passed all day, I still get to feel like I am part of the event, and not out on a solo training day. This will always be oone of my favorite races because of that. I think he appreciated the feedback. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hm. I'm getting faster. Need to keep up the speed work for my upcoming marathon, as well as all the other runs. Event comments: Had a great time with BT'ers. Stayed for the cookout and awards. We'd probably still be there if it hadn't started raining. Last updated: 2006-01-15 12:00 AM

Up at 4:45 and out the door an hour later. Ten minutes down the hwy I realize I had forgotten my gel flask. Called home and hubby met me with it halfway between where I was and home. Nice. Screamed up the highway and the back lot was full when I got there. No problem, drive in the front.
Find TAGP and a bunch of BT'ers in the lot, shoot the sh*t, then go get my packet. Set up transition area and boy is nice to be doing this without any rain! Head to porta potties, then back to transition. Barely make it to the water in time for the start.
No time to warm up. When I put my still-wet wetsuit on, it caught my timing chip strap and dragged it up to around my knee. I didn't think it would read as I crossed over the mat, so I was trying to get it out as we made our way to the water. I've got the leg of my wetsuit up around my knee when I hear "15 seconds...." Ok, do I even have my goggles?? And we're off.
