Run
Comments: I made a conscious effort to keep my knees up and stay relaxed. 5K at 18:40 10K at 37:44 8 miles at 48:58 10 miles at 1:01:34 At about 10.5 things started to fall apart. I felt great other than a horrible blister that formed right on the end and top of the second toe of my right foot. Times after that kept dropping precipitously, running the last 5K in 20:18!!! To top it off, my toe feels like it was pounded with a hammer, painful and will possibly lose the nail. I feel I could have run close to 1:20:00 if my toe would not have had the problems it had. I felt pretty good pretty much the whole way otherwise so can't feel too disappointed. Fantastic running weather! Low 50s, sunny, light breeze from the south. What would you do differently?: Eat and drink a little more prior to the race. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Blister on top of blister formed on second toe of right foot. Also, black toenail (runner's toe) on same toe was very painful starting at 10.5 miles. Slowed me from a 6:09 pace at 10th mile to an average overall pace of 6:15. Event comments: I would definitely like to run this race next year. I am happy with my overall performance considering it's only been a bit over 8 months since I started running again after a 12 year layoff. Last updated: 2006-01-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:00 a.m. and dressed. Went downstairs and had some quick breakfast and then waited for the race shuttle to depart for the race at 6:15. Had an egg, toast, banana and water.
Jogged easily for about 15 minutes and then did some striders.
