Swim
Comments: Had a great swim. I waited until the very end of the wave and was the last man in the water. I felt pretty based on the number of people I passed. I managed to catch the fastest current near the bank and fly. I'm not generally one of the strongest swimmers, but I only lost 20 seconds or so to the top swimmer in the race. What would you do differently?: Nothing - great swim Transition 1
Comments: I didn't take the race seriously enough to do a good transition. Usually I keep the shoes on the bike, but instead I put them on in T1. I certainly could have been more productive putting them on during the course like usual. What would you do differently?: Shoes on during the bike ride. Should save 20 seconds or so. Bike
Comments: Felt really dead in the legs for the first 5 miles or so. Picked it up quite a bit afterwards. Overall had a good ride. Was good enough for the age group win. What would you do differently?: Warm up before the race with a run so the legs are ready to go. Transition 2
Comments: Decided to run in the Vibram 5 fingers. I think they took longer to get on than if I had tied running shoes. What would you do differently?: No Vibrams - as much as I like the shoes, they just take too long to get the toes into. Run
Comments: Run was tough. Had an asthma attack on the hill and really had a hard time picking up the speed afterwards. Back 1/2 was much faster than the front. Still, this was slower than last year. Starting at the back of the pack during the swim was a good move, because I knew that I was ahead of everyone near me on the course. I stacked up with two other guys in the AG and finished just behind them, knowing that I had some time to spare. Turned out to be a good tactic. What would you do differently?: Warm up before the race. Walk the hill until lungs feel ok. Lose some weight! Post race
Warm down: Walked the run course with Christopher, the son of family friends and the youngest participant at the race at 13. I enjoyed talking to him. He had a great attitude. What limited your ability to perform faster: Had some stomach cramps on the bike - just wasn't feeling it. Probably had too much gatorade. Mostly though, just need to start eating right. Event comments: This is my favorite small race. Can't beat the atmosphere, and the event is well managed. Last updated: 2010-05-30 12:00 AM

Stayed at a bed and breakfast in town with the wife, so we were able to sleep in and head down shortly before the race. By the time we set up transition, we had 15 mins or so left.
Swam out into the river and swam in place with the current for a while. Usually I do a run warmup, but there wasn't really time.
