Pre-race routine:

Got to the site shortly after it opened, checked in and got body marked. Picked out my spot in transition where I thought would be good. After I was setup and came back about 30 mins later, someone had moved my stuff to the other side of the rack! I wasn't happy! Anyway...
Event warmup:

Didn't really do much, went for a short swim.
Swim
  • 25m 28s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

Tried to stay with the leader until about half way to the second buoy when I realized it wasn't gonna happen so I eased off so I wouldn't kill myself. Came out of the water in 5th place, immediately behind 3rd and 4th.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

Time includes a short run from the water to T1 (about 200 meters?). Was pretty good overall I think, need to practice having the shoes on the bike and going that way.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Bike
  • 1h 18m
  • 40 kms
  • 30.77 km/hr
Comments:

Pretty happy with this. I pushed it but not too hard to kill myself. I really focused on getting good speed on the descents and passed lots of people that way. Did a good steady pace on the climbs without blowing up.
What would you do differently?:

Train more hills!
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Pretty good for me - didn't put any socks on which helped a lot. Didn't know which way to get out which cost me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Pay more attention before the race to know which way to run out.
Run
  • 50m 19s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 02s  min/km
Comments:

My garmin only recorded 9.2k and based on how I was moving, I'd say it was right because there is no way I was moving at a 50 min 10k pace. :) I was hurting and the laps were getting slower and slower. I pushed the last one as hard as I could and got the last two k or so down to a better time. Scott caught me around 6.5k which I was happy with - I figured he'd be on me by the end of the bike!
What would you do differently?:

Run more!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough running!

Event comments:

I really liked this race. Things were very well organized, on time and a great venue.
