Swim
Comments: The swim went well -- The water was much warmer than I've been training in and I almost wanted to strip it off about 800m into the swim. The sun rise along with the reflection on the lake made sighting out to the 1st buoy almost impossible... had 2 head-on collisions with other swimmers who were swimming on the wrong side of the buoys, but they couldn't see anything either. I also started running out of the water much too soon and could have kept swimming a little longer coming into T1. What would you do differently?: Wear tinted googles next time to block out some of the sun. Wait longer before running in the water to T1. Transition 1
Comments: Had a lot of problems trying to get off the wetsuit fast during T1. The suit got caught on the timing chip and it took a while to get the legs off. What would you do differently?: More practice ripping the wetsuit off fast... especially with a timing chip around my ankle! Bike
Comments: I felt great on the bike. About mile 4 Roman Krzyzanowski came up to pass me and we ended up riding together and attacking each other for the remaining 21 miles... really helped to push me. What would you do differently?: Drink more during the bike -- Felt quite thirsty on the run afterward. Transition 2
Comments: Did a flying dismount of the bike well until my right shoe spin around and hit the ground, causing my bike to start bouncing. Ended up grabbing the bike and carrying it for a while until it settled down. Then, going into the transition area, it turned out that the athlete next to me put their helmet and bike gear on top of mine in my spot. Suddenly, I couldn't find my spot with their stuff there and it took a good 20 seconds for me to look at the numbers to get my spot and find my gear. What would you do differently?: Practice bike transitions much more. Get something very colorful to find my spot. Run
Comments: The run was definitely the toughest part, but I got through it. I was really hot and thirsty by this point. There were a lot of normal park visitors riding and walking all over the path in Kensington which made the run interesting getting around them. There was also a crazy downhill dirt section going down to the beach area which I almost fell on. What would you do differently?: Definitely get more brick workouts in. More practice running on grass/dirt for stability. Post race
Event comments: For my first triathlon, I had a great time and learned a lot from the race to improve for next time. Last updated: 2010-05-31 12:00 AM
