Swim
Comments: The T1 time is wrapped up into this number, so I'm figuring about 15:20 for the swim. Got slapped around a little and needed to stop to get air and re-orient. I was out of the water in the top 25... should have seeded myself towards the FOP. What would you do differently?: Start with FOP swimmers Transition 1
Comments: Hard to tell how long this took, but I sat down to put on cycling shoes and decided to put a shirt on, which of course got stuck on my wet body. Took too long here. Ate a Clif Shot and gulp of Nuun. What would you do differently?: Shirt under wetsuit. Buy some tri bike shoes. Bike
Comments: The race results disagree with this, but they are dead wrong. When the initial results were posted, my bike and run times were missing. I finished the bike just a few seconds behind the guy from Wisconsin, so I feel pretty comfortable about this time. The start of this race climbs a God-awful hill. I was in granny gear in a 6mph race with another dude. I almost chucked my Clif Shot at the top of this initial climb. I was toast for the first mile, but gradually came into my own and began passing guys. Got pretty good speed after that first part and felt strong, especially on the last third on Hwy 101. There's a nasty little climb in the last 1/2 mile which allowed me to pass a few more guys. What would you do differently?: Clif Shot before swim or none at all with this kind of start. Easy up the hill so as not to immediately fill my legs with Lactic Acid. Transition 2
Comments: Again, T2 is wrapped up into the run or bike leg. Not too bad... took a little too long to get shoes on. Hopefully my new Sauconys will be easier to slip on than the Pearl Izumi's I have been using. What would you do differently?: Different running shoes that have a stiffer heel. Run
Comments: I was blown! I didn't walk at any point, but this was definately my worst run in a long time. The gravel hill at the end scared me and I sort of side suffled down it. What would you do differently?: I think the ride did me in... I guess more volume and practice running on hills more. Post race
Warm down: Was really glad to finish. Walked around, ate an orange wedge, half a banana, and bottled water. Stuck around for my ribbon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor race execution that I think goes back to the intial climb on the bike. I could have taken the start a little easier and not been fighting LA for the rest of the race. Event comments: I liked this race and the friendly atmosphere. No long lines. Nice to have a little something to eat after. The raffle had great items! I ended up wining a gift cert for dinner. If I do this again there will be more hill intervals and better decision making on my part. I could have done better, but it was still nice to podium. Last updated: 2010-06-01 12:00 AM

Got to the race course early with a cup of coffee. Took my time setting up. Ate a banana and slowly drank the coffee. Chatted with a few folks and listened to the iPod a bit.
Walking up and down the hill to my car a few times for stuff. I got into the water 5-6 min before the start.
