Swim
Comments: Had problems right away with my goggles. My left lens was not sealed properly and let in water. I had to fix it twice within the first 200 m. I let that bug me and threw me off. I ended up zig-zagging to the first buoy. Once I rounded that, I attempted to switch my breathing from every 3rd stroke to every other and somehow tried to breath underwater. Groan! Ended up swallowing a bunch and getting lots in the lungs. After throwing up, continued on. For most of the rest of the swim, could not get going straight. For the last 300 m, got going straight and was going pretty good but knew the damage was already done. Oh well, became my attitude and focused on the bike. What would you do differently?: Make sure the goggles were seated well. Stick with one breathing pattern. Sight more often. Transition 1
Comments: Had to sit to get the wetsuit off. This transition is something I want to work on for short races like this but not concerned for IMC. What would you do differently?: Follow my plan and go head to toe. With struggling on the wetsuit, took me off my routine a bit. Bike
Comments: Bike was making some funny noises near the front wheel. Stopped after 8 km to check it out. Nothing noticeably wrong so burnt some time there. Pushed a bit but could have went harder. Was focused on saving energy to push it on the run. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: First time riding with feet on top of shoes. It went well. This transition was much faster than my T2 in the past. Almost cut in half. Racking the bike was funny (looking back), as I went to the wrong stand. My stuff was one stand over. Opps. Other than that, went great. What would you do differently?: Go to the right stand. Run
Comments: Aimed to have a negative split and accomplished that 27:43 vs 26:29. Pushed it on the run but still was able to keep my heart rate where I wanted it. Very pleased with the run. What would you do differently?: Not much. Post race
Warm down: Met with lots of family, great encouragement throughout the race! Had some butternorns (only provided on this race), granola bar, fruit and a giant freezee! Also, lots of water. What limited your ability to perform faster: PB for run. As I train, I get better. Continue training and gaining experience. Event comments: For a small town, they put on a great race! Nice to have a race where family live and had lots of cheerful support. Last updated: 2010-06-01 12:00 AM

Stayed with in-laws and had a fun day down at the hoodoos in Writing on Stone Provincial park. Lots of walking but light stuff.
Woke up at 5:00 AM. Ate a banana, pb bun, and a protein shake.
Drove to dam and registered, body marking and set up bike transition. Drove to T2, bio break, then setup Run gear.
Had to wait quite a while for the bus to transport us back to the dam so we didn't have to go and pick up the truck after the race. Buses were late and they had to start the race 15 minutes late.
Once we arrived back to the dam, got my wetsuit on and jumped into the lake for about 5 minute splash and warm up.
